Reflect on Your Financial Habits (Together)
Grab a moment with your partner and reflect on these questions:
1. What does money mean to us?
Security, freedom, opportunity, or something else?
2. Saver, spender, or in-between?
Which one are you and which one is your spouse? How do those styles complement or challenge each other?
3. How transparent are we?
Do we openly share about income, debts, and big purchases, or do we hide certain spending out of fear or guilt?
4. Are we working toward shared goals?
Buying a home, traveling, raising kids, retirement. Are our daily spending habits aligning with those goals?
5. When do we talk about money?
Only when there’s a problem, or do we have regular, calm discussions before issues arise?
Reflecting on these together can be eye-opening. You might discover, for example, that both of you value security, but one of you pursues it by saving aggressively while the other tries to secure it by investing in education or experiences. There’s no “right” approach, what matters is understanding each other.
