The recently concluded The World Bank's Data for Soil Health and Innovation Scale Summit (3rd -4th June 2025, Nairobi) was truly a one of its kind event. The event brought together multi-stakeholders to collaborate to accelerate the use of data-driven technologies and support scalable, context-specific solutions to address urgent soil health issues across Eastern and Southern Africa and improve productivity, sustainability, and resilience in the region's agricultural systems.
Key takeaways and highlights from the event included:
🌱 During his keynote speech, Kenya's Agriculture and Livestock Development CS, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe said, "Soil testing turned my farm’s fortunes from night to day. I was farming blind, wasting resources on the wrong fertilisers—a mistake too many Kenyan farmers make. We must empower our smallholders with the data and tools to unlock their land’s potential".
🌱 Girmaw Abebe Tadesse (Principle Research Scientist and Manager, Microsoft AI for Good Research Lab) noted that we need crop suitability, soil fertility, and fertiliser use maps for decision making. End user potential Impact - stakeholders need be able to understand the impact from the start as they create solutions through the utilisation of data.
🌱 We are excited to have landed a spot as one of top 3 start-ups of The World Bank Soil Health Innovation Challenge! This recognition gives us further motivation and validation to continue providing soil health management solutions to small holder farmers in Africa!
