SPEAKING TO THE DEAD (NECROMANCY) IS PROHIBITED IN THE BIBLE
Deuteronomy 18:10–12
NKJV
10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you.
Leviticus 19:31
New International Version
31 “‘Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.
Leviticus 20:27
New King James Version
27 ‘A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones. Their blood shall be upon them.’ ”
Using an old woman medium to speak to dead Samuel did not augur well for King Saul( 1Samuel28). It turned out disastrous.
Methods of speaking to the dead based on cultural and spiritual beliefs
1. Speak your thoughts: Some belief systems suggest that simply speaking from the heart to the departed can create a connection, as they are believed to be able to hear you.
2. Write a letter: Writing a letter to the deceased and then burning it to watch the smoke carry the message is a symbolic way to express thoughts and feelings.
3. Use a journal: Keeping a dedicated journal to write down thoughts and feelings for the deceased is another method for processing emotions and maintaining a sense of connection.
4. Prayer: Some religious traditions view prayer as a way to communicate with the dead, to ask for forgiveness or guidance
These methods of communicating with the dead should be condemned in the strongest terms possible.
All methods of speaking to the dead are abominations before our Lord Jesus Christ. They are not fitting for God's covenant people.
