"Sasa wanataka nikule mamboga?" (ata si mboga).
That’s what a newly diagnosed diabetic client said to her son and brother who had accompanied her for check up due to a recent 5 day unexplained body weakness, after her blood sugar test read over 20 mmol/L and HbA1c test around 17%

It’s heartbreaking but also a wake-up call.
Vegetables are not punishment; they’re protection.
They don’t spike your blood sugar.
They support weight management, heart health, and long-term wellness.

The truth is the diet you’re consuming today will catch up with you if not in months, then in years.

Continue feeding on junk, and unfortunately, the body will one day demand accountability through sickness, medication, and restricted diets.

Don’t wait for the diagnosis to start eating right.
Start now before your plate becomes your prescription.

Please if you have a parent who is diabetic or hypertensive tafuta a certified Nutritionist, Food is everything when it comes to such conditions but it's not emphasized enough.

I'm seeing those patients suffer just because they don't follow the right dietary habits

⚠️ You may feel healthy… until high blood pressure strikes.
The Silent Killer in Kenya: How Everyday Choices Are Raising Your Blood Pressure 🫀⚠️

High blood pressure (BP) is no longer a “foreign problem.” In Kenya today, more people are silently living with it without knowing—until it strikes through a stroke, heart attack, or kidney failure. Doctors call it the “silent killer” because it shows no warning signs.

Our lifestyle is the biggest weapon against (or for) high blood pressure.

Here’s what you can do starting today:
✅ Limit alcohol – heavy drinking raises BP and damages your heart.
✅ Cut back on salt – too much salt makes your blood vessels stiff and pushes pressure up.
✅ Eat smart – more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, and less processed foods.
✅ Stay active – 30 minutes of walking or exercise most days can save your life.
✅ Manage stress – prayer, meditation, deep breathing, or just slowing down helps.
✅ Check your weight – even small weight loss lowers BP risk.
✅ Monitor your BP – know your numbers before it’s too late.

In Kenya, hospital bills are high—but prevention costs almost nothing. A small change in your daily habits can protect your heart, your brain, and your family.

Your health is your wealth. Don’t wait for a crisis to take control.

I recently attended an NCD advocacy training hosted by NCD Alliance Kenya and one thing stood out clearly: awareness and sustained financial investment must become top priorities in the fight against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Despite the rising burden of NCDs, funding in this space remains critically low — a gap that must be addressed. It is our responsibility to push for strategic prioritization at all levels.

Your voice matters. A lot is at stake.

The future of our children — and even our present — is under threat as NCDs continue to rise. We cannot afford silence.

Speak up. Advocate. Influence NCD action in your community. Vulnerable lives depend on it.
