Not everyone comes to Blue Ribbon run/walk events chasing a Personal Best.

Some come chasing their first 5K.
Some come to walk, talk, breathe and reset.
Some come because a doctor said “start moving.”
Some come because the heart just needed community more than competition.

And guess what?

We celebrate you the loudest.
Because finishing 5K when you’re just starting out…
Showing up when movement feels hard…
Choosing health one step at a time…

That is elite courage.

So if your pace is slow, if your run turns into a walk, if you take photos, laugh too much, or stop for mandazis…

You are exactly who Blue Ribbon runs are for.

Focus on the step in front of you.
We will handle the celebration at the finish line.

💙

🔵🔵 Blue Ribboner of the Week: Merlyne Akwir Nungo
Nickname: Optimus Prime -

Meet Merlyne - sister, daughter, friend, and a proud pet mum (yes, both cats and dogs). By profession she is a health researcher, a path she found after getting curious about women’s health. But in true Blue Ribbon fashion, she refuses to box herself in - today a researcher, tomorrow…a mountaineer (and she claims that influence is coming from the Blue Ribbon RD and Murima crew 🤩).

Merlyne’s favourite hobby? Recruiting people into movement. Her philosophy is simple: everyone must move. If you hang around her long enough, chances are she will sign you up for a run, walk, hike or something that involves your legs doing work.

For Merlyne, Blue Ribbon events are about connection - a space where movement meets community and family time. Before joining the Blue Ribbon Actives she thought running had to be competitive. Now she knows better. These days she signs up for runs mainly for the maandas…while pretending to be a serious mover chasing a distance goal 😂. Along the way she’s also come to appreciate the deeper mission - championing early detection and health awareness.

Her movement journey began intentionally at the 2024 Standard Chartered Marathon, followed by Run for Your Lungs by Blue Ribbon, and she has not looked back since. She moves because it’s fun, because it inspires her community, and because she wants to still be walking upright at 100+.

From us at Blue Ribbon: Merlyne brings energy, laughter and recruitment-level enthusiasm to every event. If you suddenly find yourself registered for a run you had not planned for…chances are Optimus Prime recruited you. Also she’s an exceptional time-keeper 😂

Let’s give Merlyne her flowers this week Blue Ribbon 💐🔵
