APHRC, represented by the Executive Director, Catherine Kyobutungi, Director of Programs - Synergy, Anthony Mveyange, and Head of Data Science Program, Agnes Kiragga, met with H.E. Veronica M. Nduva, Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), to discuss opportunities for collaboration on regional health and research priorities.

Key highlights of the meeting were:
✅ Strengthening partnerships between APHRC and EAC to advance evidence-driven solutions.
✅ Joint focus on investing in African data for African solutions.
✅ Collaboration on pandemic preparedness and cross-border health responses.
✅ Exploring a consortium approach for co-creation, fundraising, and impact.
✅ Shared commitment to public health, with emphasis on maternal and women’s health.

We look forward to deepening collaboration with the EAC to strengthen health systems and improve outcomes across the region.

Together with the Sub-Saharan Africa Consortium for Advanced Biostatistics (SSACAB), APHRC is hosting a one-week training in Dakar, Senegal (Sept 22–25, 2025).

APHRC’s Dr. Cheikh Mbacké Faye, in his remarks, said, “Building capacity in research is at the heart of APHRC’s mission, particularly for young African researchers who will drive the continent’s scientific future.”

Speaking on behalf of the SSACAB Prof. Ngianga-Bakwin Kandala noted: “Advanced Biostatistics is not just a technical skill. It is a cornerstone for high-quality health and population research that can inform evidence-based policies.”

Throughout the week, participants from across West and Central Africa will strengthen their skills in advanced statistical methods and foster regional collaboration.

At the Forward Africa Leaders’ Summit, APHRC signed three landmark MOUs to deepen strategic partnerships and advance African-led research, policy, and innovation.

1️⃣With the Science for Africa Foundation to advance African-led research, capacity building, and science communication.
2️⃣With the African Peer Review Mechanism and GSMA to drive governance, digital transformation, and inclusive e-governance, facilitated through the Data Science Without Borders initiative.
3️⃣ With the Pan-African Parliament to link research with policy, focusing on universal health coverage, health financing, climate and health, and digital health innovation.

Through these partnerships, APHRC reinforced its commitment to ensuring that evidence informs decision-making for a healthier, more equitable, and resilient Africa.
