We are pleased to share with you that our partner at IVCC (Innovative Vector Control Consortium) has launched a call for proposals to advance vector control tools for malaria by addressing the critical gaps in the existing toolbox.

While current methods primarily target indoor mosquito behavior, we’re looking for Proof of Concept (PoC) projects that hat target aspects of the mosquito lifecycle beyond indoor feeding and resting.

This is a chance for stakeholders across geographies and disciplines to contribute to the malaria fight with fresh ideas and technologies.

We are pleased to share with you that PAMCA - Women in Vector Control is organising it first Annual Conference on the theme "𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹: 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀".

We’re thrilled to share that the PAMCA in collaboration with the MalariaGEN at Wellcome Sanger Institute is hosting a symposium on Malaria Vector Genomics Surveillance in Africa – a Pan-African led initiative aimed at advancing our understanding of Anopheles vector genetics for improved Malaria control across sub-Saharan Africa.

As mosquitoes adapt rapidly under intense selection pressure from conventional insecticides, new tools are essential to understand the genomic drivers behind these changes.

With a line-up of 5 scientific talks from – Fatoumata SECK, Sanjay Curtis Nagi, PhD, Dennis Tristan, Rosine Z. Wolie, Ph.D., and Luna Kamau- the symposium led by Eric Ochomo & Alistair Miles will present:

Together with our partners at MalariaGEN, we are pleased to announce that the call for application for the online training course in for of African malaria vectors is now open for application. This course is delivered jointly the PAMCA Pan-African Mosquito Control Association- and by the Malaria Genomic Epidemiology Network (MalariaGEN)

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀
The goal of this course is to introduce some practical techniques for the analysis of genomic data for surveillance of Anopheles mosquitoes.

At the end of the course, trainees will be able to:

1. Perform a range of analyses on Anopheles genomic data that are relevant to malaria vector surveillance
2. Describe key biological concepts underpinning the analyses
3. Describe key computing technologies used for the analyses
4. Interpret analysis results and discuss implications for malaria vector control policy

𝑲𝒆𝒚 𝑫𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔:
The course runs from the 2nd of April 2025 till the 11th of June 2025

Amelie Wamba, Coordinator of the Gene Drive Project was nominated by the PAMCA - Women in Vector Control Program to take part in the Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) course for Senior Health Leaders that took place between April 2024- October 2024.

The LMG course for Senior Health Leaders is a comprehensive program aimed at enhancing the capabilities of health professionals in Cameroon. Offered in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and conducted by Strathmore University in Kenya, this course is meticulously designed to equip participants with essential leadership and management skills tailored to the complexities of the global health landscape.

According to Amelie, the training has equipped her with essential leadership and management skills that will enhance her ability to address global health challenges.

𝗩𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻!

Yesterday 16 October, participants from the 3rd cohort of the PAMCA- MalariaGEN training course in data analysis for the genomic surveillance of African malaria vectors met for a virtual hackathon. 👏

Together with MalariaGEN, we had an incredible day of innovation and collaboration at this year’s Vector Genomic Data Analysis Hackathon. Participants from across Africa came together to tackle real-world challenges, share ideas and push the boundaries of vector genomic research. From insightful discussions to hands-on sessions, the energy and creativity were unmatched.

PAMCA- MalariaGEN 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞 𝙎𝙮𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙪𝙢

On the 25th of September 2024, PAMCA Pan-African Mosquito Control Association together with our partners MalariaGEN , hosted a virtual mini-symposium featuring 11 insightful presentations from trainees of the PAMCA-MalariaGEN Anopheles Genomic Surveillance Data Analysis Training Course.

The mini symposium was an opportunity for presenters who had undertaken a data analysis project, using data from the MalariaGEN Vector Observatory or other relevant surveillance data, to present their data analysis project findings to symposium attendees.

The event fostered an engaging atmosphere with participants sharing 15-minute presentations followed by 5 minutes of Q & A session. This virtual event was a fantastic opportunity for attendees to learn, connect and collaborate.
