WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY

As we mark patient safety day today, I distill the following five questions that healthcare institutions, systems or even consumers can apply as a quick and straight forward feedback to incorporate patient voices, evaluate patient experiences and inculcate safety and quality in health provision:

1. How would you rate the overall quality of service you received
2. Were you treated with respect and dignity?
3. Did you feel adequately involved in the decision-making process leading to all services and products you received.
4. Was their a misunderstanding or intervention or medication error that you noticed or was noticed by your care-giver or a second opinion?
5. Did you get better, worse after the service and was that because your problem was not solved adequately or the service provided harmed you?

The five questions constitute everything that healthcare systems can simplify and apply to enable the participation of patients in enhancing their safety.

What do you think are the best ways to incorporate patients in their care? Let’s engage!

Marfan Syndrome:Causes

It is caused by a defect in the gene that enables your body to produce a protein that helps give connective tissue its elasticity and strength.

Most people with Marfan syndrome inherit the abnormal gene from a parent who has the disorder. Each child of an affected parent has a 50-50 chance of inheriting the defective gene. In about 25 percent of the people though, the abnormal gene doesn't come from either parent. In these cases, a new mutation develops spontaneously.
