Just a little honesty and vulnerability post in hopes that it finds those who also feel like me.
Truth is, regardless of what type of shape I'm in or how happy I am with my physique. I still feel INCREDIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE taking my shirt off in the gym...or anywhere really. It makes my skin crawl every single time.
It's been this way for 20 years. I always told myself that when "x" level was achieved. I'd finally feel normal about it. But this week I finally accepted the realization that I'll always feel super uncomfortable, AND THAT IS OK.
I am standing in the gym I co-own and helped build. In my own space, and still feeling uncomfortable as all hell. But I'm glad I did it anyway. Because I now have this cool moment with another Pro that I competed with just days prior who randomly showed up at Undefeated.
I've been fortunate this year to have lots of first time experiences that were uncomfortable as all hell. And I'm really glad that I pushed through my discomfort and did them anyway. Because look what came of that!
Being uncomfortable is not a bad thing. It probably means that you are experiencing some personal development and growth. Even if that discomfort never goes away. Not letting it sideline you is the victory.
So take your shirt off for the fun gym photo. And take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. Even if it makes your skin crawl like it does to me.
Now, swipe right for my comfort photo. π
