Dealing with Rejection

As we grow older, one thing we must contend with is that people can dislike and reject you for no good reason and that's okay.

When you face rejection, it's not always about what you did or didn't do. Far from it, at times, someone will dislike you for very minute reasons which may be beyond your control.

For instance, someone can dislike you because of your height. They probably prefer shorter or taller people because of fickle reasons only known to them. Sadly, not many people will have the grit to tell you outright. They'll prefer to act disinterested or be mean to you thus pushing you away.

Some people don't like your energy. They may consider you too boisterous. Other may label you boring because of your calm and reserved demeanor.

Some people don't like your scent. Interestingly, someone could find you attractive at face value yet they sideline you down the road because of your scent and rarely will they tell you. Their energy towards you will just change.

Other people don't like your sense of fashion. While you feel comfortable in oversize tops, others may take offense with that.

In essence, my point is that people can dislike you for insignificant reasons hence reject you and its perfectly fine.

In the face of rejection, never demonize yourself. Also, don't try to change yourself because you think people will accept the new version you are becoming. You may change one aspect only for them to demand more from you afterwards which may be grueling and unsustainable.

Always remind yourself that rejection from people does not point to inadequacy on your part. Rather, rejection simply suggests that the person has a different preference and it's okay.
Avoid the fallacy that if one specific person accepts you your life will change tremendously. Not at all. If you are rejected by one person, move on and try your lack elsewhere.

We are almost 8 billion people in the world. Why should you allow 1 person to ruin your self-worth and curtail your happiness. Go to where you are wanted and appreciated.

The Cardinal Rule of Friendship

Go to where you are wanted. Only go to places you are invited to. Stop trying to fit in or to force issues. It drains you emotionally.

Appreciate and keep close the people who value you. When you succeed in life, always remember those that stood by you when you didn’t have anything. Those are your real friends because they treasure the person you are rather than what you have.

They may not have much to offer materially but trust me, nothing beats the warmth, company, encouragement you get from a true friendship.

Stop forcing relationships because you think you’ll benefit in one way or another from them. You will not. In many cases, help always comes from people you least expected would come through for you.

Friendships are beautiful when they are mutual. Nurture a few healthy relationships with people that wish you well. Pray and support each other.

Take note that with healthy and supportive relationships, one can surmount almost anything. Conversely, toxic, and parasitic friendships drain you emotionally and materially. They also deter your growth as a person.

Be wise with who you invite into your circle and with whom you invest your time, emotions, and energy.
