WHY I REFUSE TO VOTE
Call me a hopeless citizen, a sucker of democracy, but that won't change a thing
I don't mean to vent or to come out as a savage, but again, this is it:
1. I get sick, I parade my poorly nourished skin in the Kisumu's scorching sun as I line up at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital(JOOTRH) hoping beyond hopes that the malaria kits won't be over before my name is called by an equally overworked nurse and hence pouring all her anger to my pathetic soul.
My DP, the one whom I woke up at 3am to elect gets a headache and is flawn to Turkey for medication. A comfort that all cabinet secretaries enjoy, who is fooling who??
2. I scrumble for knowledge at Omukuro primary school where it is literally 'Survival of the fittest' as no one cares whether I attended classes twice a week and spend the other three ploughing my mother's 0.25 acre of plot to hopefully get some millet months later. Does it matter than I only manage 192 marks? After all its good riddance to bad seeds as chances at Alliance Girls belong to the owners of the country.
Does it even bother the legislatures that they fully sponsor the Alliance materials, those who could well afford Aga Khan primary? Why should it?
The poor have no place in the society
Why pay for them 10k school fees while you can pay 100k in Alliance?
Why should you?? Who will plough your farms anyway...
3. A miserable child takes just "strong tea" as the only meal they can land on in 24hours
Who bothers to know who owns half of the milk companies in Kenya?
Who cares anyway?? Do they even know that it hasn't rained somewhere for over 4 months? Certainly no, it doesn't matter
After all they will give you 100 ksh, get a 'sugar rash' and as usual, wake up at 3am to get them richer as you get poorer
4. I hit a metal and two years later, am speaking in Arabic. But all is cool because to them doctors are dispensable. After all lab technicians can perform craniotomies and drill burr holes, who cares anyway. Mr politician is well insured and not even the Pcm in Kenya can't pass down his throat
5. And at the end of the day, a government will be elected, with a stronger opposition, who will do nothing but wait to expose scandals.
Aren't we hurt enough?? Don't you realize that you are just telling me that you have been there, done that... oh, and wait, you will call for demonstrations, as usual I will definitely follow what my kingpin say
But where are they when police officers mercilessly hit me? Where are they when my husband is shot dead? They so deserve to live so that at least they buy me a coffin worth 7k, right?? Isn't that enough to replace my "juakali" hubby? It certainly is.
After when their sons, daughters and grandparents die it becomes 'breaking news'(I need not mention their cause of deaths)
Why should they die while they should inherit their parents positions??
Until the tribal kingpins go down
Until leadership goes to those with vision and not their mission
Until my vote can count
I will sleep and turn my empty stomach upside down... that's what i do best
