There is a small but growing wellbeing industry in Africa, and a high rate of unemployment. We partner these two needs by training global wellbeing leaders in and from Africa to provide professional wellbeing services for Africans, by Africans. Currently we are more than 200 trained yoga instructors both give back to their communities by providing free yoga classes to over 6,000 people in a single

week in Nairobi, and earn a living teaching classes at our yoga studio, the Shine Center, and at other studios, companies, gyms and homes across Kenya. Join a yoga class in Kenya, mentor a teacher from abroad, host a fundraising class to support AYP, host a teacher when they come to the US for a fundraising tour, come to Kenya for a service trip or 200 hour teacher training!

Movement is a form of mental health because when we move our bodies, we also move emotions through our bodies allowing them to be released as opposed to being stuck.

A lot of common phrases even show us how emotions are tied to the body eg When feeling a lot of pressure, we say ā€œI’ve got a lot of weight on my shouldersā€.

Feeling stuck? Move! Stressed? Move? Anxious? Move…whatever the difficult emotion…just move! šŸ™

Here’s how to get into Warrior II pose aka Virabhadrasana 2 :

šŸ”“ While facing the long side of your mat, stretch your arms straight out from your shoulders and make your feet parallel to each other in a wide stance. You want your ankles to be approximately beneath your wrists.

šŸ”“ Make your right foot and knee turn to face the front of your mat.

šŸ”“Then place your left toes in an angle slightly inwards toward the upper left corner of the mat.

šŸ”“Next, bend the right knee and stack it over your right ankle.

šŸ”“Balance out your weight evenly between both your legs. Press down through the outer edge of your back foot.
Keep your shoulders over your hips.

šŸ”“ Reach strongly through both arms toward the front and back of the mat and turn your head to look past your right fingertips.

šŸ”“ Hold it here for about 5–10 breaths.

šŸ”“To come out of the pose, exhale as you press down through your feet, then inhale and straighten your legs.

šŸ”“Repeat on the other side.
