My advice to new graduates is the same advice my mom gave me as a little girl: Set your own agenda, or someone else will.

There will always be people who have strong opinions about how you spend your time, talents, and resources. And there will always be people who try to make those decisions for you. But there’s only one person who truly knows what’s right for you: you.

As you get started on this next chapter of your life, remember how special you are to this world. No one else has your unique set of perspectives and experiences, and no one else can make the exact impact you can. As you decide how to wield that power and potential, stay true to your own values and goals, and set an agenda that channels your skills and passions into what matters to you most.
