From one of our recent sessions at Ward 1E, Kenyatta National Hospital, where the children created handmade cards filled with messages of love, light, and positivity. โœจ

Through card-making, theyโ€™re able to express how they feel in their own way, opening up space for connection, conversation, and deeper understanding. This is why our art therapy sessions remain such an important part of their journey.

These classes take place every Thursday, creating a consistent space for creativity, expression, and care.

Last Thursdayโ€™s at the paediatric oncology ward, Kenyatta National Hospital, we were joined by a wonderful group of friends who spent time with the children through art, creating, painting, and simply being present.

They shared care packages with 28 children (which is the full capacity of Ward 1E), each thoughtfully put together with everyday essentials.

Each package included:
๏ปฟ๏ปฟA toothbrush and toothpaste, bar soap, toilet paper, long life milk, and fresh oranges and apples.

These moments of connection, kindness, and presence remind us that no child should go through this journey alone.

Thank you for standing with our children and bringing comfort in such meaningful ways. ๐Ÿ’›

A walk for a cause. ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

Grateful to everyone who came through, and also to those who supported by contributing purely for the cause. This is a reminder that you can be part of it in any way. Every step counts.
Grateful to everyone who came through and supported the cause, in presence and in spirit. Every step counts.

As we grow, weโ€™re learning, refining, and looking forward to building something even bigger, with more people, more impact, and more shared moments.

On to the next one. ๐Ÿ’›

Crayon batik, a fun and creative art technique where children draw with crayons on fabric or paper and then add watercolour or paint. The wax resists the paint, creating vivid, textured patterns that bring their imagination to life.

This activity encourages expression, patience, and confidence, letting the kids see how their ideas can transform into something beautiful.

Join us every Thursday from 2:00 PM โ€“ 4:00 PM at Kenyatta National Hospital Ward 1E.

Last week we had a visit from Aviators of Hope, a wonderful group from Aviators of Hope. A team from Kenya Airways (), including pilots, cabin crew, and ground staff, all united by a passion for helping others. ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

They spent time with us at the home, connected with our work, and were deeply moved by the cause. Their support went even further as they contributed shopping worth KES 50,000 for the home.

Weโ€™re so grateful for your kindness, your time, and your willingness to walk this journey with us. Thank you. Hereโ€™s to building something meaningful together. โœจ

A special moment for Hope for Cancer Kids. ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŽ—๏ธ

Last Friday, we officially opened the doors of 1 Hope House, a home away from home for children with cancer. A milestone that marks a new chapter in how we support children living with cancer and their families.

This home will provide a safe and welcoming space for patients and their caregivers travelling from outside Nairobi who need to stay close to the hospital while undergoing treatment.

We were honoured to open the doors to our partners and the public, sharing what this space represents and the hope it brings for the year ahead.

1 Hope House is more than a place to stay, itโ€™s a place of comfort, care, and community.

More moments from the opening coming soon.

Who we are

Hope for Cancer Kids (H4CK) is a registered charitable organization formed in 2008 by parents and friends of children diagnosed with childhood cancer, Registration No. 28787.

We are a not-for-profit organization registered under the Societies Act of Kenya. We help raise funds for children battling the disease. Our Health Insurance Support Program has proved beneficial to children with cancer and their families, especially from poor backgrounds. Hope for Cancer Kids (H4CK) supports families by paying health insurance cover for children with cancer, through the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF). NHIF covers both in-patient and out-patient hospital fees in government hospitals. It costs KES 6,000 to cover a child for a period of one year to recieve treatment in public/government hospitals. However some cots are not covered by the government and we have other programmes aimed at raising awareness, fundraising and advocacy.

Since 2011, H4CK has focused on providing NHIF funding for children receiving treatment at KNH, as well as other supportive services for families. While we have been very successful in assisting families, and encouraging them to continue treatment, the Board of H4CK realized the need to take a strategic look at current programs and find ways to make sure our work remains mission-focused and time-efficient.
