Today, on World Malaria Day 2026, EPN joins the global community in reaffirming that malaria is preventable, treatable, and can be defeated with sustained action and strong health systems.

At the EPN, we continue to strengthen pharmaceutical systems that ensure communities have access to quality-assured medicines, reliable supply chains, and essential health services. We work with faith-based and national health systems to improve the availability of effective malaria commodities, support safe and rational use of medicines, and promote community awareness to improve early care-seeking and prevention.

We are Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must

Through strong partnerships and resilient systems, we can protect more lives and move closer to a malaria-free future.

In Kakamega County, Kenya, EPN and the Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) recently carried out supportive supervisory and monitoring visits as part of the IMPACT Project, working closely with county health leadership and frontline teams.

From county-level discussions to facility visits, one thing stood out: practical improvements are taking shape where it matters most, at the point of care.

What’s changing?
- More consistent availability of essential medicines
- Enhanced dispensing practices, with greater attention to patient counselling and privacy
- Stronger Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) systems and more active Medicines & Therapeutics Committees
- Stronger collaboration between public and faith-based facilities

It was encouraging to see how continuous training and mentorship are translating into better service delivery and improved patient experience.

IMPACT project is aimed to enhance access to and quality of pharmaceutical care in rural areas of Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania through strengthening the capacity of healthcare workers, particularly in medicine supply chain management, rational use of medicines, dispensing practices, and addressing the special needs of the elderly. The project is supported by action medeor e.V.

EPN continues to collaborate with its members, partners, and national stakeholders to strengthen regulatory frameworks, build the capacity of healthcare workers, and foster stronger coordination across the faith-based health system.

In Malawi, this effort recently reached an important milestone with the launch of the SAFER Project in partnership with Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). The initiative is designed to strengthen national systems to effectively address poor-quality medicines and safeguard communities.

The launch convened key institutions, including the Ministry of Health, Pharmacy Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA), Central Medical Stores Trust (CMST), World Health Organization (WHO), CID, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Malawi. EPN was represented by Dr. Diana Ogutu, who leads the SAFER Project and and EPN's Quality Assurance, Surveillance & Regulatory Systems programme.

Key discussions revealed that while technical knowledge is available, gaps remain in coordination, systems, and protocols needed to translate detection into meaningful action. Strengthening collaboration across regulatory, supply chain, and enforcement functions emerged as a critical priority.

There was strong alignment among stakeholders on the need for a more connected, multi-sectoral approach, one that enables faster information sharing and more effective responses.

With the support of CHAM, government institutions, and plan:g ( Partnership for Global Health), EPN is optimistic about advancing a safer, more resilient pharmaceutical system in Malawi.

Last week, the International Maternal and Newborn Health (IMNH) Conference brought together global and country leaders in Nairobi to share insights, reflect, and accelerate action for the health of mothers and newborns.

With nearly half of under-five deaths occurring in the first month of life, every intervention counts.

EPN was proud to participate, sharing lessons from our Maternal and Newborn Health Product Introduction (MNHC) Project in Kenya and Nigeria, showing how country-led, real-world solutions are saving lives.

Key takeaways:

- Faith-based health facilities are central to national health systems and ready to partner for impact.
- Local, country-led evidence drives sustainable change and policy adoption.
- What gets recorded gets done—and what gets done saves lives.
- Community-led, culturally tailored approaches ensure lasting impact.
- Ending PPH requires strategic advocacy, empowered providers, aligned systems, and actionable evidence.
- Strong supply chains and availability of quality MNH commodities—including innovative PPH bundles, uterotonics, and essential maternal drugs—are non-negotiable.
- Political commitment, coordinated partnerships, and strategic advocacy are essential to scale and sustain solutions.

The conference reinforced a simple truth: this is not a moment, it’s a movement.

At EPN, we are committed to strengthening supply chains, supporting country-led solutions, and ensuring life-saving maternal and newborn health commodities reach those who need them most.

Today, on World TB Day 2026, we celebrate hope and action: “Yes! We can end TB!”

Tuberculosis continues to affect millions, but with strong systems and collective effort, it is a fight we can win.

At EPN, we are working across Africa and beyond to strengthen faith-based health services. From equipping healthcare workers with the skills they need, ensuring reliable access to quality TB medicines, promoting responsible use of treatments, to supporting communities to adhere to their treatments and reducing stigma, we are committed to making a difference.

This year’s theme reminds us that ending TB is not just a dream, but it is achievable. With leadership, innovation, and collaboration, we can create healthier, TB-free communities for everyone.

As we unite to tackle neglected tropical diseases, let’s remember that snakebites contribute significantly to the burden of NTDs. They affect vulnerable communities, especially in rural and bushy areas, and can be deadly if not treated promptly.

On this World NTD Day, let’s raise awareness about all neglected tropical diseases, including snakebites and act together to protect our communities.

NTDs are not just statistics, they are lived realities shaped by poverty, inequality, stigma, and weak systems.
On World NTD Day 2026, EPN calls for sustained commitment and community investment to reach the last mile and restore lives, especially for women and girls affected by neglected conditions like Female Ge***al Schistosomiasis.

Together, we can end NTDs for good.

Agissons ensemble.
