As life draws to a close, changes in appetite and fluid intake are a natural part of the body’s transition. While this can be difficult for families to witness, eating less is expected and does not mean a person is suffering. In end‑of‑life and palliative care, nutrition is no longer focused on recovery or cure. The emphasis shifts to comfort, dignity, and respecting individual preferences. Offering small amounts of familiar foods or drinks without pressure can provide reassurance, while forcing intake may cause unnecessary distress. Understanding this shift helps caregivers release guilt and focus on what matters most: presence, compassion, and quality of life. The attached document offers guidance on supporting patients and families through nutrition care that is gentle, respectful, and person‑centered. Read more: https://shorturl.at/RmFy0

Following free hearing screenings conducted during World Hearing Day, KUTRRH’s ENT Department Audiology Unit partnered with Starkey Hearing and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) to turn early diagnosis into lasting impact.
Over 70 patients were screened, with 16 children identified as requiring hearing support. Through this collaboration, 26 hearing aids were successfully fitted to 15 children giving them the gift of sound and a renewed opportunity to learn, communicate, and thrive. For these children, hearing means more than sound, it means inclusion, confidence, and a brighter future. For their families, it is the joy of connection and hope restored.
This initiative highlights the power of early detection, timely intervention, and strong partnerships in transforming lives.

Every sound counts. Every child matters.

Type 1 DM occurs among children, adolescents and young adults. It occurs because of autoimmune destruction of the pancreatic beta cells leading to absolute insulin deficiency.

There is a crisis in Africa whereby an estimated 1.2 million children and young people (CYP) are living with diabetes, with around 150,000 new cases of type 1 diabetes (T1D) diagnosed annually.

Kenya ranks as the 44th highest country worldwide for T1D prevalence among children and young people.
