KUTRRH joined the global community in celebrating World Diabetes Day, under the theme “Diabetes and Well-being – Focus on Diabetes in the Workplace.” The event, held at the KUTRRH Auditorium, showcased our commitment to Quality Patient-Centered Care and featured the official launch of the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Clinic.
Representing the Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Michael Kezegule delivered a powerful keynote address. He underscored prevention as the most cost-effective strategy against noncommunicable diseases, citing alarming global statistics and urging stakeholders to adopt healthier lifestyles, strengthen healthcare systems, and invest in grassroots education.
Following this, Dr. Cosmas Kimama, Head of Internal Medicine, emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to diabetes management, highlighting collaboration among physicians, nurses, nutritionists, and physiotherapists to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Roselyn Ngugi, Chair of the Kenya Diabetes Study Group (KDSG), called for research-driven interventions to address Kenya’s rising diabetes burden and stressed the need for partnerships between hospitals, universities, and community health programs.
The celebration was led by Dr. Caroline Mithi, Head of Endocrinology who reinforced the importance of continuous professional development to keep pace with evolving treatment protocols.
Beyond speeches, the day was vibrant and engaging, featuring tree planting to symbolize growth, free diabetes screening for staff and patients, a lively Zumba dance session promoting fitness, and a cake-cutting ceremony celebrating unity and commitment.
This was more than a celebration—it was a call to action for healthier lifestyles, workplace wellness, and stronger healthcare systems. Together, we reaffirm our vision to be a premier referral hospital renowned for excellence in clinical care, research, and innovation.
