The Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS) successfully convened its Annual Suppliers Conference on 5th February 2026, bringing together over 170 suppliers, government representatives, and health supply chain stakeholders under the theme “Re-engineering Health Products Supply Chain Systems for Resilience Amidst Shifting Market Dynamics.” The conference marked a defining moment in MEDS’ 40-year legacy of excellence in providing innovative and adaptive health solutions. The Chief Guest,
Dr. Nazila Ganatra, Director of Health Products and Technologies at the Ministry of Health, outlined the government’s push toward pharmaceutical self-reliance through the Kenya Local Manufacturing Strategy 2025–2030, emphasizing a shift from 70% import dependency to sustainable local production. She also highlighted progress toward WHO GBT Maturity Level 3 and reassured suppliers on strengthened payment security during the Social Health Authority (SHA) transition.
The Guest speaker Mr. Newton Siele, CEO of Phillips Therapeutics Limited, challenged stakeholders to rethink resilience in a VUCA environment, spotlighting technology, data analytics, and partnerships as critical enablers. He anchored his message on five optimization pillars: global–local balance, core focus, collaboration, mobile technology adoption, and agile, responsive supply chains.
MEDS leadership shared the revised strategic plan for 2023-2027, its supply chain priorities for 2026 and showcased its strong performance milestones. A major highlight was the announcement of MEDS’ digital transformation agenda, with an e-procurement and workflow management system set to launch in 2026, expected to cut processing times by 60% and enhance transparency through end-to-end digital tracking.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to collaboration, as MEDS and suppliers reaffirmed their shared responsibility to build resilient health supply chains and ensure equitable access to quality, affordable HPTs across Kenya and the wider East African region.
