Maternal and Child Health; Caring for Mothers and Children

Good health for mothers and children is the foundation of a strong community. At Langata Hospital, we walk with families through pregnancy, birth, and early childhood to ensure safe and healthy lives.

During Pregnancy:
- Visit the hospital as soon as you know you are pregnant. Early care keeps both you and your baby safe.
- Attend all antenatal clinics to monitor the baby’s growth and your health.
- Eat healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, milk, and fish.
- Take supplements such as iron and folic acid as advised by the doctor or nurse.
- Avoid alcohol, ci******es, and self-medication.

Giving Birth and After Delivery:
- Deliver in a hospital where trained health workers can assist you.
- After delivery, visit the hospital within six weeks for postnatal care.
- Rest well, eat nutritious meals, and keep yourself clean.
- Seek help quickly if you notice heavy bleeding, fever, or severe weakness.

Immunization:
- Immunization is one of the best ways to protect your child from dangerous diseases.
- Vaccines protect against polio, measles, tuberculosis, whooping cough, pneumonia, and other illnesses.
- Bring your baby for all scheduled vaccines and carry the child’s immunization card every time.

Caring for the Newborn:
- Start breastfeeding within the first hour after birth.
- Give only breast milk for the first six months. No water, porridge, or other foods are needed during this time.
- Keep your baby clean, warm, and safe.
- Watch for danger signs such as fever, difficulty breathing, poor feeding, or unusual crying, and bring the baby to the hospital immediately.

Our Story

Langata Hospital initially started as a medical centre on June 2005 providing medical care at out patient level only.

As it gained popularity and the clientele increased, the need to convert the facility Into a full time hospital with inpatient services became necessary. As a result, the facility was expanded and developed and appropriately equipped and in October 2005 Langata Hospital was licensed providing 24 hour services both at outpatient and inpatient level.

The hospital over the past few years has grown into a respected healthcare institution in the Langata suburb of Nairobi. Due to increasing demands, the hospital continues to upgrade its facilities in both diagnostic, surgical, medical, pharmaceutical, radiology and other relevant therapeutic areas the hospital has also been accredited by NHIF to provide medical care to its members.
