BREAST FIBROIDS? YES BREASTS TOO CAN HAVE FIBROIDS ( FIBROADENOMAS)
When the word fibroids is mentioned most people will associate it with uterine fibroids but did you know that breasts too can develop fibroids? Let's find out.
Breast fibroids, or more accurately, fibroadenomas, are common, benign (noncancerous), solid breast tumors frequently occurring in women aged 14–35, though possible at any age. They are firm, rubbery, mobile, usually painless, and typically range from 1–3 cm, sometimes shrinking after menopause. They do not increase cancer risk.
SYMPTOMS
Smooth, solid, painless, rubbery lumps that move easily under the skin (often called "breast mice"). Some may be tender, especially before a period.
CAUSES
Unknown, but they are hormone-sensitive, often growing during pregnancy or with hormone therapy, and shrinking after menopause.
