Day 2 at the in Mombasa was all about integration in action.

The CHAK team led the conversation with impactful presentations on integrating HIV prevention and treatment, TB, NCDs, and mental health, demonstrating how coordinated care can transform health outcomes. Our other presentations were on the themes of building empowered, resilient communities and health workforce strengthening.

The momentum didn’t stop there. Six CHAK-supported County and Faith-Based health facilities shared poster presentations, documenting real-world lessons and innovations from the frontlines of implementation.
From policy to practice, the message was clear: integration works, and communities thrive when systems work together.

This is the future of healthcare - connected, people-centered, and built for sustainability.

At the Health Integration Summit 2026 taking place in Mombasa, Dr Chris Barasa, CHAK General Secretary & CEO, shared a powerful message on the future of sustainable health services.

He used the imagery of tandem nursing/breastfeeding to illustrate how Kenya must nurture two models at the same time: sustaining proven donor-supported programmes while strengthening the Government-to-Government approach as global funding declines, especially for HIV/AIDS services. Dr. Barasa who spoke during a panel discussion on Governance demonstrated the critical role that Faith-Based Facilities who serve close to 40 per cent of Kenyans with health services have in complementing Government efforts towards achieving Universal Health Coverage.

The summit was officially opened by Health Cabinet Secretary Hon Aden Duale and attended by other leaders including Mombasa Governor Hon Abdulswamad Nassir.

At the summit this year, CHAK is showcasing two key innovations driving sustainability in HIV care - CMaT and Imara Care - which are designed to strengthen health systems for continuity and sustainability of HIV services.

Staff from the CHAK Institute of Capacity Development (CICD) made major strides in digital learning this week.
At the CHAK offices in Nairobi, the team was trained by ECHO Africa on the ECHO online platform, gaining the skills needed to roll out virtual capacity-building programs for CHAK Member Health Units (MHUs) and partners in governance, policy, and best practices.
Through the CHAK–ECHO collaboration, teleECHO technology and digital learning platforms will power continuous learning, stronger knowledge sharing, and improved healthcare outcomes across the CHAK network.

Today, CHAK-Jamii Tekelezi Project handed over laptop computers to the Meru County Department of Health Services to support transition from Implementing Partner–led to County-led HIV service delivery.

This milestone will strengthen County systems to ensure that Counties are fully equipped to sustainably manage HIV programs.

By investing in tools that enhance planning, monitoring, and coordination, CHAK is helping build resilient, locally led health systems capable of sustaining quality HIV services.

The initiative will also be implemented across the other CHAK-Jamii Tekelezi supported Counties of Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nyandarua as part of the broader effort to advance sustainable, County-led health systems.

Together, we are strengthening systems, empowering County leadership, and ensuring lasting impact in the HIV response.
