Infertility/Subfertility:
Implies inability or reduced chance of conception with regular sexual in*******se for a period exciding 6 months
Causes:
• Female factors: Ovulation problems, tubal issues/blockageas, endometriosis, uterine abnormalities, and advanced age.
• Male factors: Abnormal s***m production, function, or quality of produced semen.
• Combined factors: A combination of both male and female factors.
Diagnosis:
Female fertility
1. Ovulation Tests: track levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) in urine
2. Hormone Tests: Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH), Estradiol, Prolactin etc
3. Transvaginal Ultrasound: use ultrasound to evaluate the ovaries, cysts, fibroids and monitor the development of follicles during the menstrual cycle.
4. Hysterosalpingography (HSG) check if fallopian tubes are open, blockages or abnormalities in the uterus.
5. Ovarian Reserve Tests: tests assess quantity and quality of a woman's eggs
Male fertility
• Semen Analysis
o S***m Count: The number of s***m in the sample.
o Motility: The percentage of s***m that are moving.
o Morphology: The shape and size of the s***m.
o Volume: The amount of semen produced.
o pH Level: The acidity or alkalinity of the semen.
o White Blood Cells: Elevated levels could indicate infection.
o Fructose Level: Low levels could indicate a problem with the seminal vesicles or prostate.
• Hormone Testing- Testosterone etc
• Genetic Testing- Identify genetic factors that may contribute to infertility.
• Ultrasound- check for structural issues in the reproductive organs i.e. testicles, epididymis
• Post-Ejaculation Urine Test
• S***m DNA Fragmentation Test
• Vasography- check for blockages in the vas deferens
