OSTEOMALACIA
Is a disease characterizedby the softening of the bones caused by impaired bone metabolism primarily due to inadequate levels of available phosphate, calcium, and vitamin D, or because of calcium resorption.
osteomalacia in children is known as rickets.
SIGNS & SYMPTOMS
-Difuse body pains, muscle weakness, and fragility of the bones.
The most common causes of osteomalacia is a deficiency of vitamin D, which normaly derived from sunlight exposure and, to a lesser extent, from the diet.
the most specific screening test for vitamin D deficiency in otherwise healthy individuals is serum 25(oh)D level.
Gender and age is a risk factor.
Women are more at risk from the age of 50 and above.
PREVENTION.
Prevention of osteomalacia rests on having an adequate intake of vitamin d and calcium, or other treatments if its an osteomalacia hereditary.

🚘 Road traffic crashes result in the deaths of approximately 1.19 million people around the world each year and leave between 20 and 50 million people with non-fatal injuries.

Who is at risk?

🤵🏽‍♂️ Males are typically 3 times more likely to be killed in road crashes than females.

🧒🏻 Road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death for children and young adults.

🚴🏻‍♂️ More than half of all road traffic deaths are among pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.

🌍 92% of the world's fatalities on the roads occur in low- and middle-income countries.

There are several risk factors, including:

➡️ Speeding
➡️ Driving under influence
➡️ Not using seat-belts, helmets, child restrains
➡️ Distracted driving
➡️ Unsafe road infrastructure
➡️ Unsafe vehicles
➡️ Inadequate post-crash care
➡️ Inadequate law enforcement

Road traffic injuries can be prevented!

💪Effective interventions include designing safer infrastructure and incorporating road safety features into land-use and transport planning, improving the safety features of vehicles; enhancing post-crash care for victims of road traffic crashes; setting and enforcing laws relating to key risks, and raising public awareness.

A new study has found that microplastics and nanoplastics accumulate at higher levels in the brain compared to the liver and kidney, including significantly greater concentrations in the brains of people diagnosed with dementia compared to samples in 2016.

The researchers suggest drastically increasing concentrations of plastic particles in our homes, air, and water could be to blame, with inhalation through the nose a more direct entry point.

📊 Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. Every minute, 40 people are diagnosed with cancer globally, and embark on a journey to overcome it.

🔬 According to projections by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the number of annual cancer cases could rise to 35 million by 2050, a 77% increase since 2022.

This week, on World Cancer Day, we honour the courage of those affected, celebrate scientific progress to treat the disease, and affirm our commitment to .

Here’s how YOU can make a difference in your community:

✔️ Educate on prevention & early detection.
✔️ Share personal stories & highlight patient experiences to humanize cancer care.
✔️ Promote people-centered care & emphasize the need to tailor treatment to individual needs.

👩🏽 Cervical cancer is the 4th most common cancer in women, but it is preventable and curable when discovered early.

Cervical cancer is caused by persistent infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). Almost all sexually active people will be infected at some point in their lives, usually without symptoms.

⚠️ In most cases, the immune system clears HPV from the body. Persistent infection with high-risk HPV can cause abnormal cells to develop. Typically, it takes 15–20 years for abnormal cells to become cancer.

Risk factors for cancer progression include:

➡️ The type of HPV a person has
➡️ Immune status
➡️ The presence of other sexually transmitted infections
➡️ Number of births
➡️ Young age at first pregnancy
➡️ Hormonal contraceptive use
➡️ Smoking

The good news is that cervical cancer is preventable and can be cured if diagnosed early.

Here are three steps to protect yourself from cervical cancer:

✅ Being vaccinated at age 9–14 years
✅ Screening from the age of 30
✅ Prompt quality treatment can cure cervical cancer

💔 Our hearts go out to the victims of devastating wildfires currently ripping through Los Angeles County, California, USA.

🔥 Wildfires are increasing around the globe in frequency, severity and duration.

⚠️ The risk of wildfires grows in extremely dry conditions, such as drought, heat waves and during high winds.

☢️ Wildfire smoke is a mixture of hazardous air pollutants, such PM2.5, NO2, ozone, aromatic hydrocarbons, or lead. In addition to contaminating the air with toxic pollutants, wildfires also simultaneously impact the climate by releasing large quantities of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

🌡️ With climate change leading to warmer temperatures and drier conditions, wildfire events are getting more extreme.

Avoid Cigar smoking under dry terrain
