We believe that Principals, as key leaders, shape school climate, enabling early identification of mental health issues, reducing stigma, and implementing effective preventive strategies.

We later met the sub county sports association at St. Luke's Cheptiret High school where we discussed the role of Emotional intelligence in sports. (EI) plays a pivotal role in sports, influencing athletes, coaches, and teams in various impactful ways. The integration of EI skills in sports environments enhances performance, develops positive team dynamics, and endorses overall psychological well-being among athletes. It helps athletes, coaches, and teams to recognize, understand, and manage emotions effectively in themselves and others, thereby influencing performance, teamwork, and overall well-being in sports contexts according to Manu Singh Pawar.

We attended the Kenya Private Schools Association North Rift Region meeting in Eldoret where we emphasized the need for Mental health services in schools. Mental Health & Psychosocial Support is crucial for addressing the rising, often untreated, psychological needs of students, as 1 in 5 people live with a mental disorder and early signs often appear by age 14. We fascicilitated team building session to youths from KRCS Bomet, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Kericho and Baringo branches at Bush Baby Campsite in Baringo. The activities offered a way for teams to connect and bond with others in their age group and with similar interests. Being part of the teams helped them build critical skills that carry through to adulthood, such as goal setting, critical thinking, working collaboratively with others among others.

šŸ“… 12th Nov 2025 ā€” The Kenya Red Cross Nakuru Branch, together with the Nakuru County Government, Upya Counseling Mediation & Consultancy , KENHA, NTSA, Daima, Coca-Cola, Bizlink, St. John Ambulance, Kenya Scouts, KenGen, MKU, Stirling Healthcare, Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, Madini Water, Regional Blood Center, and many others, joined hands to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Sachangwan, Molo Sub-County šŸ•Šļø

šŸš“ā€ā™€ļø The day began with an inspiring Road Safety Awareness Cycling from Nakuru to Sachangwan ā€” spreading messages of hope, remembrance & safety.

šŸ™ At the memorial site, activities included inter-denominational prayers, candle lighting šŸ•Æļø, flower placement šŸŒ¹, survivor testimonies, mental health sessionUpya Counseling, Mediation & Consultancysultancy team, and a successful blood donation drive šŸ©ø collecting pints to save lives.

SUPPORTING STAFF WELLBEING AT WORKPLACE

A state of well-being where individuals realise their potential, cope with normal stresses, work productively, and contribute to the community is key.

Work is good for both physical and mental health but can also cause stress.

According to the Ministry of Health's 2023 Workplace Mental Wellness Guidelines 3.7 million Kenyans in the workforce experience mental health conditions.

More work is needed to understand the extent to which mental illness decreases productivity at work and the mechanisms through which this occurs, as well as a better understanding of the dynamics of the relationship between mental illness and worker productivity to understand the trade-offs between presenteeism and absenteeism.

Upya Counseling, Mediation & Consultancy promotes workplace well-being by establishing preventative strategies like training an organisation's heads and team leads, mitigating workplace risks, and providing support programs for early detection and treatment of mental health issues.

We facilitated a Mental Health & Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and Art therapy workshop with KRCS Kericho branch for different organisations' leaders including NPS at Comfort Guest house in Kericho County.
