🚬🏥 Did You Know? In 1948, cigarette companies used to hand out free ci******es to hospital patients — even in respiratory wards!

A to***co mascot named “Mr. Cig” once made rounds at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, cheerfully giving out ci******es to sick patients. It sounds shocking now, but back then, the health risks of smoking weren’t fully understood — and it was actually considered normal.

Fast forward to today, and hospitals are leading the charge in to***co-free care. Instead of handing out ci******es, they now offer real support to help people quit — with ni****ne patches, medication, counseling, and expert advice.

🫁 From handing out harm to healing habits — we’ve come a long way.

To the public who feel jealous of doctors for their earnings and complain about the consultation fees they receive…

Here’s a little explanation:

When you were enjoying your high school days, he/she was the one who couldn't share that happiness, buried in books and stress.

When you slept peacefully from 9 PM to 6 AM, he/she managed with just 5 to 6 hours of sleep.

While you were enjoying beers and outings during your first year of college, he/she was the one shedding tears over cadavers.

When you started looking for boys/girls to date, he/she was busy drawing histology diagrams with eosin and hematoxylin.

When you were planning your wedding in final year, we were still struggling with Medicine and Obstetrics.

When you got married, we couldn’t even consider it — we were preparing for postgraduate entrance exams.

When you started earning, we were still working like slaves during our PG training.

This journey continues… even now.

A doctor usually settles and starts earning properly only after the age of 35.

So please —They deserve every bit of what they earn for the sacrifices they’ve made throughout the first half of their lives.

Do you know that during dialysis, blood is removed from the body through the red tube, passed through the dialysis machine, and then reintroduced into the body through the blue tube.

This process is repeated for four hours while the patient remains immobile in bed.

The procedure is carried out three times a week, which results in twelve times a month, and each time it takes four hours, which results in a total of forty-eight hours a month.

For those not affected, this process of flushing your kidneys occurs automatically 36 times every day with zero effort or discomfort.

Nausea and vomiting

Weight loss despite normal eating

Itchy a**s (especially with pinworms)

Fatigue and weakness

Visible worms in stool (in severe cases)

3. Causes & Risk Factors

Eating contaminated food or drinking unsafe water

Poor hygiene and sanitation

Walking barefoot in contaminated soil

Close contact with infected individuals or animals

4. Diagnosis

Stool tests (to detect worm eggs or larvae)

Blood tests (to check for parasitic infections)

Imaging (for severe cases like tapeworms in organs)

5. Treatment Options

Medications:

Albendazole or Mebendazole (for most worm infections)

Praziquantel (for tapeworms)

Ivermectin (for certain parasites)

Natural Remedies (Supportive, but not a replacement for medicine):

Garlic, papaya seeds, pumpkin seeds

GASTRIC ULCER

Causes

1. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection – Bacteria that damage the stomach lining.

2. Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) – Frequent use of aspirin, ibuprofen, or naproxen.

3. Excessive stomach acid production – Due to stress, smoking, alcohol, or spicy foods.

4. Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome – A rare condition causing excessive acid production.

Symptoms

Burning stomach pain, often worse on an empty stomach.

Bloating, nausea, or vomiting.

Loss of appetite and weight loss.

Dark, tarry stools (indicating bleeding).

Vomiting blood (severe cases).

Diagnosis

Endoscopy – A thin tube with a camera to examine the stomach lining.

H. pylori test – Blood, stool, or breath tests.

Barium swallow X-ray – A special contrast dye for imaging.

Biopsy – A tissue sample may be taken during endoscopy.

Management & Treatment

1. Medications:

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs): Omeprazole, lansoprazole – reduce acid.

H2-receptor blockers: Ranitidine, famotidine – decrease acid production.

Antibiotics: If H. pylori is present (clarithromycin, amoxicillin).

Antacids: For temporary symptom relief.

2. Lifestyle Modifications:

Avoid NSAIDs, smoking, alcohol, and spicy foods.

Eat small, frequent meals.

Manage stress through relaxation techniques.

3. Surgical Options (rare cases):

Used if ulcers do not heal or cause complications like bleeding or perforation.

Kala-azar is a severe and often fatal disease if left untreated. It is caused by the Leishmania parasite, which attacks the immune system, leading to prolonged fever, weight loss, swelling of the spleen and liver, and severe anemia.

The disease primarily affects vulnerable individuals, including children and those with weakened immune systems. Since its symptoms resemble other common illnesses like malaria and typhoid, early diagnosis and treatment are essential to saving lives.

The Kala-azar outbreak in Wajir is a serious health crisis that demands immediate intervention. With 18 people already dead and over 100 hospitalized, urgent containment measures must be enforced. Isolating infected individuals, improving healthcare response, and educating the public on prevention strategies will be key to stopping the disease.

The government, health organizations, and local communities must act swiftly to protect lives and prevent further devastation.Neighboring counties must work together to prevent the spread of Kala-azar beyond Wajir. Screening checkpoints should be set up at major entry points to test and monitor travelers.

Health officers should educate local leaders on how to protect their communities and implement disease surveillance measures. By strengthening cooperation between counties, we can reduce the risk of the disease reaching new areas.

LEG CELLULITIS

Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection that commonly affects the legs. It can spread quickly and requires prompt treatment.

Symptoms of Leg Cellulitis

Red, swollen skin that feels warm and tender.

Pain or tenderness in the affected area.

Skin tightness or firmness due to swelling.

Fever and chills in severe cases.

Blisters, pus, or skin dimpling (in advanced cases).

Swollen lymph nodes near the infection.

Management & Treatment

1. Medical Treatment

Antibiotics: Oral antibiotics (e.g., penicillin, cephalexin) are prescribed for mild cases, while IV antibiotics may be needed for severe infections.

Pain Relief: Over-the-counter pain relievers (ibuprofen or acetaminophen) help manage pain and fever.

Hospitalization: If the infection spreads or doesn’t improve within a few days, hospitalization may be required.

2. Home Care

Rest & Elevation: Keep the affected leg elevated to reduce swelling.

Hydration & Nutrition: Drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet to support healing.

Clean the Area: Gently wash with mild soap and water to prevent worsening of the infection.

3. Prevention

Treat Wounds Properly: Clean and cover cuts, scrapes, or insect bites to prevent bacteria from entering.

Manage Skin Conditions: If you have eczema or athlete’s foot, treat it to prevent skin cracks that can lead to cellulitis.

Good Hygiene: Keep your skin moisturized and clean, and avoid walking barefoot in risky areas.

If symptoms worsen (e.g., spreading redness, high fever, or weakness), seek medical attention immediately. Do you need guidance on specific home remedies or prevention strategies?

DANGERS OF BLEACHING CREAM

Using bleaching creams can pose serious health risks, especially when they contain harmful ingredients like hydroquinone, mercury, and corticosteroids. Here are some dangers associated with skin bleaching:

1. Skin Damage

Thinning of Skin – Long-term use can make the skin fragile and prone to bruising.

Irritation & Burns – Some products cause rashes, itching, and chemical burns.

Uneven Skin Tone – Prolonged use can lead to skin discoloration, making the skin appear blotchy.

2. Increased Risk of Skin Cancer

Many bleaching agents reduce melanin, which protects the skin from harmful UV rays. This increases the risk of skin cancer over time.

3. Mercury Poisoning

Some illegal bleaching creams contain mercury, which can lead to kidney damage, neurological issues, and severe allergic reactions.

4. Hormonal Imbalance

Steroid-based creams can disrupt hormone levels, leading to acne, weight gain, and fertility issues.

5. Risk of Infections

Bleached skin has a weaker barrier against bacteria and fungi, making it more susceptible to infections.

Safer Alternatives

Natural remedies like lemon, aloe vera, and turmeric.

Healthy skincare with sunscreen, hydration, and vitamin-rich creams.

Dermatologist-approved treatments for hyperpigmentation.
