In Loving Memory of Our Colleague Monica Kabiru

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Monica Kabiru, a dedicated nurse who was working at Nyeri Town Health Centre, MCH Department.

She was more than a colleague, a source of joy, warmth, and compassion within our facility. Her gentle spirit, dedication to service, and unwavering care for mothers and children touched countless lives. Every smile she shared, every patient she comforted, and every duty she carried out reflected her deep commitment to humanity and to the nursing profession.

Her absence leaves a profound void in our hearts and within our workplace. We mourn not only the loss of a skilled and devoted nurse, but also a cherished team member whose presence brightened our days.

On behalf of the entire facility, we extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We stand with you in prayer, love, and solidarity.

May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her legacy of compassion and service continue to live on through the lives she touched.

Advancing Men’s Wellness Through Community Centred Care

The Department of Medical Services & Public Health - Nyeri County, through the Nyeri Central Sub-County Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) hosted its second Male-Only Wellness Inreach at the Nyeri Town Health Centre.

The event was honoured by the presence of the Amref Health Africa in Kenya Board of Directors and senior leadership, who are currently on an annual site visit to various Amref-supported project sites across Nyeri County.

This second inreach comes after overwhelming demand and the remarkable impact of the first session demonstrating that providing men with accessible, tailored wellness services significantly promotes early screening and proactive health-seeking behaviour.

During the session, men received a comprehensive package of health services, including:

• NCD screening (blood pressure, diabetes, and lifestyle assessments)
• Cancer awareness and individual risk assessment
• Mental health support
• General medical consultations and personalised counselling

The strong turnout and active engagement sent a powerful message: When intentionally supported, men are willing and ready to prioritise their health.

This noble initiative was powered by Amref Health Africa – Project THRIVE, with additional support from Equity Afya Medical Centre and City Eye Hospital, further strengthening the Department’s commitment to advancing primary healthcare and building healthier, empowered communities.
