Did you know that in an average classroom of 30, at least 2 children likely have a condition most people haven't heard of?
It’s called Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).
DLD affects roughly 1 in 14 children. That makes it more common than autism, yet it rarely gets the same level of awareness.
One of the biggest misconceptions? That DLD is just about being a "late talker."
It’s actually much deeper. It’s about how the brain is wired to process and use language. For these kids, understanding long sentences or finding the right words can feel like navigating a maze without a map.
Because it’s often "hidden," DLD can be mistaken for shyness or even behavior issues. This is why "wait and see" is not a strategy. If you’ve felt like something was "off" with your child’s communication, trust your instincts.
Early identification is the most powerful tool we have. Understanding the "why" is the first step toward helping them find their voice.
Had you heard of DLD before today?
