A new year invitation to serve. Lord I am grateful.

As children come home for almost 2+ months, I urge us parents to take that time to connect with them. Grades are important but the person is more important than those grades. How many scored great grades but living very miserable lives of crime & addictions?
When these guys share in therapy, it is usually about the people who were around them in their families of origin & especially during their transitional years of teenage.
Let your children know that you care about their lives in general grades aside.
Let's listen to their dreams & goals and we allow ourselves to support them towards them.

Just like we repair our gadgets with urgency when they indicate malfunctioning, the same way we need to constantly REPAIR our relationships with significant others in our lives when we suspect dysfuntionality.
Gottman describes a repair attempt as “any statement or action — silly or otherwise — that prevents negativity from escalating out of control.”
The goal of repair is to understand what went wrong, and how to make your next conversation more constructive.
You can imagine how this parent-child relationship would look like several years from now. The modeling down here is awesome.
