Early Diabetes signs and symptoms; Behind the scenes.
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person's blood sugar level to become too high.
There are two main types of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes – where the body's immune system attacks and destroys the cells that produce insulin
Type 2 diabetes – where the body doesn't produce enough insulin, or the body's cells don't react to insulin
Causes of diabetes
The amount of sugar in the blood is controlled by a hormone called insulin, which is produced by the pancreas (a gland behind the stomach).
When food is digested and enters your bloodstream, insulin moves glucose out of the blood and into cells, where it's broken down to produce energy.
However, if you have diabetes, your body is unable to break down glucose into energy. This is because there's either not enough insulin to move the glucose, or the insulin produced doesn't work properly. Although there are no lifestyle changes you can make to lower your risk of type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes is often linked to being overweight.
When to see a doctor
Visit a doctor as soon as possible if you experience the main symptoms of diabetes, which include:
-Feeling very thirsty
-Urinating more frequently than usual, particularly at night
-Feeling very tired
-Weight loss and loss of muscle bulk
-Itching around the p***s or va**na, or frequent episodes of thrush cuts or wounds that heal slowly blurred vision
Here is an explanation for the most common diabetes symptoms.
*Frequent urination and thirst*
The glucose in the urinedraws more water out of the blood, so more urine forms.More urine in your bladder makes you feel the need tourinate more frequently during the day and to get up atnight to empty the bladder, which keeps filling up. As theamount of water in your blood declines, you feel thirstyand drink much more frequently.
*Fatigue*
Because glucose can’t enter cells that depend oninsulin as a key for glucose (the most important exceptionis the brain, which doesn’t need insulin), glucose can’t beused as a fuel to move muscles or to facilitate the manyother chemical reactions that have to take place to produceenergy. The person with diabetes often complains of fatigueand feels much stronger once treatment allows glucose toenter cells again.
*Weight loss*
Weight loss is common among some peoplewith diabetes because they lack insulin, which is thebuilder hormone. When insulin is lacking for any reason, the body begins to break down and you lose muscle tissue. Some of the muscle converts into glucose even thoughit can’t get into cells. It passes out of your body in theurine. Fat tissue breaks down into small fat particlesthat can provide an alternative source of energy. As yourbody breaks down and you lose glucose in the urine, youoften experience weight loss. However, most people withdiabetes are heavy rather than skinny.
*Persistent va**nal infection among women*:
As bloodglucose rises, all the fluids in your body contain higherlevels of glucose, including sweat and body secretionssuch as semen in men and va**nal secretions in women. Many bugs, such as bacteria and fungi, thrive in the high-glucose environment. Women begin to complain of itchingor burning, an abnormal discharge from the va**na, andsometimes an odour.
*Slow healing wounds*
Blood Glucose Levels; It all starts here. An elevated blood sugar level stiffens the arteries and causes narrowing of the blood vessels. The effects of this are far-reaching and include the origin of wounds as well as risk factors to proper wound healing.
Poor Blood Circulation; Narrowed blood vessels lead to decreased blood flow and oxygen to a wound. An elevated blood sugar level decreases the function of red blood cells that carry nutrients to the tissue. This lowers the efficiency of the white blood cells that fight infection. Without sufficient nutrients and oxygen, a wound heals slowly.
Blurred Vision
This could just be a temporary problem that develops rapidly and is caused by high blood sugar levels. High blood sugar causes the lens of the eye to swell, which changes your ability to see. To correct this kind of blurred vision, you need to get your blood sugar back into the target range.
