Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common va**nal infection caused by an imbalance of bacteria. Normally, Lactobacillus keeps the va**na healthy, but in BV, harmful bacteria like Gardnerella va**nalis overgrow. Symptoms include thin gray or white discharge with a fishy odor, especially after s*x, and sometimes itching or burning. BV isn’t strictly an STI but is linked to s*xual activity and douching. Doctors diagnose it by examining discharge and checking va**nal pH. Treatment includes metronidazole or clindamycin, taken orally or as a va**nal gel. Avoiding douching, practicing safe s*x, and maintaining hygiene help prevent BV and reduce recurrence.
