As a surgeon, you know that skill is built in the quiet hours: repetition, precision, and discipline.

Over the last 8 weeks, I’ve watched Cohort 2 show up daily, practise consistently, and grow in confidence and control. From simulation drills to supervised live surgery, their progress has been intentional and earned.

Seeing them graduate OR-ready is a proud moment not just for them, but for the future of minimally invasive surgery in our region.

Congratulations, doctors. The real work begins now, and you are ready.

There are cases you treat. And then some experiences change how you practice medicine forever. This Daily Nation feature explores why pelvic pain has been normalised for generations, and why that must change.
For me, this conversation became deeply personal when my wife went through unnecessary suffering before accessing the right care. The contrast between invasive surgery and minimally invasive treatment was not theoretical. It was lived.
As a surgeon, you understand anatomy. As a husband, you understand impact.
That experience strengthened my resolve to make laparoscopic care more accessible not just in major private hospitals, but across counties where women often have no specialist options.
The article goes beyond the medical narrative. It examines the structural gaps in women’s healthcare and how The Hem Practice is working to address them through mobile surgical units, training, and sustainable infrastructure.
Pelvic pain is not a rite of passage. It is a clinical signal, and it deserves attention.

I invite you to read the full feature here. https://nation.africa/kenya/health/a-lifetime-of-pain-how-generations-of-women-learn-to-endure-pelvic-pain--5361124

This week, I attended advanced minimally invasive surgery training at Ircad Africa, Rwanda, through the support of Medtronic, which was focused on techniques that directly improve patient outcomes.

What made this experience especially meaningful was attending alongside Dr. Njatha, a general surgeon I already work closely with in the surgical treatment of endometriosis. The live tissue sessions, particularly bowel resection and anastomosis, allowed us to further refine and perfect our teamwork in the operating room. This level of coordination is crucial in complex endometriosis cases, where collaboration between gynaecology and general surgery can make a real difference in outcomes.

For patients, this means safer surgery, better precision, and a team that works in sync for you.

💛 If you are living with endometriosis, you don’t have to suffer in silence. We diagnose and treat endometriosis at The Hem Practice Medical Centre.

Thank you to Medtronic and IRCAD Africa for supporting training that ultimately serves patients better.
