An anomaly scan is a routine ultrasound scanning for pregnant mothers in the second trimester, primarily used to assess foetal anatomy and detect the presence of any foetal anomalies. Although majority of these are performed between 18 and 24 weeks, it can also be extended to 27 weeks.
This is one of the most important scans that no mother should skip. Some of the most common fetal abnormalities include: anencephaly, otocephaly, Spina bifida, Amelia, omphalocele, holoprosencephaly, cyclopia, cryptothalmos among others.
