Hanson's disease (Leprosy). The swelling on the right side of the neck is actually the thicken anterior branch of the great auricular nerve. The posterior branch of the nerve is also thicken; palpable but not seen because it runs along the posterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and thus less conspicuous. There was decreased sensation on the skin lesion and decreased sweating on the lesion during exercise. Hanson's disease is hardly seen nowadays in Malaysia. Hanson's disease is often missed because many of our doctors especially the younger ones have not come across any patient with such diagnosis during their training. This was a 19-year old patient who had a history of working with the foreign workers in a factory for 1 month during his school break.
