ABOUT WOMEN
It is an honour for me to present to you the 2012 Annual Report of the Women Organisation for Modern Economy and Nursing (WOMEN). The Annual Report documents our activities, achievements and lessons learned during the past year.
2012 has been another busy year for WOMEN as we continue to implement important projects working alongside communities and authorities in Phnom Penh city, Kandal, Prey Veng, Kampong Cham, Kompong Thom and Oddar Meanchey Provinces. Our focus on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support remains a key pillar of WOMEN’s work, as does child rights and protection. Taking an integrated approach to development means, livelihood, climate change and adoption that WOMEN must also provide broader education and capacity building of communities and authorities in key areas such as health and social education, human rights especially gender empowerment, and scaling up of livelihood enhancement activities to assist with moving individuals and families out of poverty towards overall improved lifestyles and life situations. This is no easy task as both WOMEN and communities face limitations and challenges but it is a goal we will always aspire to.
2012 has provided opportunities to reflect on past successes and the future in front of us which has been included in the Strategic Plan 2011-2013. We have used this opportunity to ask ourselves and our communities how we can best help respond to their needs now and in the future. Of particular importance, we are hearing about the need to enhance livelihoods so that poor and vulnerable people can have more regular incomes and certainty for the future. We are also being encouraged by communities in Prey Veng and other provinces to assist with the task of adapting to Climate Change. I am pleased with the achievements of 2012 which are detailed in the following chapters, and look forward to building on the good work of WOMEN in our key programs, as well as cross-cutting topics in the future. I thank all our donors, government partners, staff, volunteers, and community members for the inspiration and support they continue to provide to WOMEN. We look forward to working with you to achieve our vision and mission in the future.
