FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHO IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CUPPING ?
- Elderly people who are weak and has poor physical condition.
- People using blood thinning or anti-clotting medication has to inform the practitioner before the session to avoid any risks.
- Pregnant women during the first trimester of pregnancy.
- People recovering from surgery.
- People in acute crisis stage or inflammatory flare.
DOES IT HURTS ?
Pain tolerance differs from person to person though you can be reassured that with the hundreds of people we have serviced to date that we have had no client unable to tolerate the procedure.
Some patients say it tickles and others compare it to the flick of an elastic rubber band.
HOW LONG MARKS LASTS ?
The most common misunderstanding regarding one of the most powerful and beneficial after effects of Cupping, is the marks that sometimes result.
The color and pattern of the marks depend on the level of stagnation in the area, and range from a bright red to dark purple, usually lasting 3 days to a week - sometimes longer if the person is very sick or sedentary. If there is no stagnation present, there will be only a pink marking which disappears in a few minutes to a couple of hours.
Sites where there is old trauma or injury may require multiple Cupping treatments to remove all stagnation. You will find in follow up treatments the marks will be progressively lighter as the pathogens are systemically removed from the body.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS ?
Other possible minor side effects are slight light-headedness post cupping therapy; this is similar to the sensation one feels after having had blood taken, as Cupping Therapy encourages blood flow to the cupped region; one may therefore feel warmer and hotter as a result of vasodilatation (widening of blood vessel) taking place and slight sweating may occur. There is a sound scientific rationale for this and there is no cause for concern.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED ?
This is a difficult question to answer, we can only suggest you base treatments on subjective outcomes i.e how you feel the days/weeks following your Cupping treatment.
Each body is different, some needs more sessions than other. It particularly depends about your conditions and about your body response to cupping.
Actually, we recommend 3 sessions to notice the benefits.
Your therapist will inform you how long you have to wait between each session and which type of cupping it's the most efficient for you.
WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE CUPPING ?
- Fast at least 2-3 hours before your treatment to avoid the nausea often caused by a full stomach (include drinking and smoking).
- The person undergoing Cupping is encouraged to perform bath or shower before the treatment.
- Drink plenty of water – Aim for 6-8 standard cups prior to fasting.
- Wear comfortable loose fitting clothing.
- Let your therapist know of any medication you are on and your medical history.
