Repost: How do you know when your battery is hitting that 20% mark and what do you do to recharge?
I’ve been based in Cambodia for nearly a year, and whether I’m working online with clients in the UK or supporting organisations here on the ground, my focus is the same: helping organisations and people improve their wellbeing and expand their opportunities.
My nature is to often get into the habit of spinning multiple plates - I’m a constant source of energy helping people work through challenges and finding solutions. This can lead to my ‘personal battery’ running low, and like with all things that need to be recharged once you get the warning that you’re at 20% you know it's time to plug in very soon.
For me the warning signs are lower mood, questioning my work, and quietly feeling out of place.
Fortunately I have a wonderful and trusted support network, and when they can see and hear the signs of me losing energy; they are quick to tell me, it sounds like you need to ‘switch off’ for a few days. And so last weekend I did!...
I had an opportunity to join a wonderful retreat with United Yoga Asia in Kep. Our group was a lovely mix of people from Cambodia and across the world.
We stayed in a beautiful location, situated between the sea and national park. By simply having sight of the ocean and nature, already my charge went up to 50%. The morning yoga classes, good food, a trip out on the ocean and relaxed evenings soon got me back to 100%.
On our last evening we were allocated ‘Reflection’ time and during this I realised just how many of my wholesome and nourishing life experiences have come from the moments when I have made a conscious choice, or as I say a Mindful Move, to focus on my wellbeing. For me my journey into wellbeing started at a yoga class in my local gym 17 years ago!!
When I pause to think about it, I can’t believe where I’ve been since then, what I’ve learned so far, and what I’m still yet to experience.
I feel incredibly fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity to do the work I’m doing, and take time out in beautiful surroundings such as Kep….I’ll leave you with a few snapshots of this weekend so you can soak up some of the beauty too.
