CarMHI - Caribbean Mental Health Initiative

CarMHI - Caribbean Mental Health Initiative Fighting mental health stigma, encouraging research and improving the quality and accessibility of Mental Health care in the Caribbean.

Mission in Brief:

Fighting local and professional mental health stigma through effective knowledge media design strategies; improving the quality and accessibility of mental health services in the Caribbean; organizing educative seminars and workshops; supporting mental health research, and founding a trans-Caribbean mental health network. History of CarMHI:

After being intimately involved with

mental health issues in his youth, working with trauma victims abroad and spending significant time advocating for increased quality of mental health care and accessibility in Toronto, Nzube Ekpunobi's passion for Community Mental Health and compassionate care grew tremendously. The Caribbean Mental Health Initiative (CarMHI) was the brainchild of a leap of faith into addressing the issue of Mental Health stigma, quality of care and body of research in the Caribbean. Though based primarily in St. Kitts, the organization continues to expand into surrounding nations in hopes to eventually establish a self-sustaining trans-Caribbean Mental Health network through which finite resources and services may be shared between countries and the quality of Mental Health care in the Caribbean will eventually reach an unparalleled standard of excellence.
