How long does the effect of Facial fat grafting last?

Fat grafting is an effective way to naturally restore facial volume.

Many patients are curious about how long the results of the procedure last, especially before deciding to undergo fat grafting. So, how long does the result of fat transfer to the face actually last?

It’s usually not possible to achieve the full effect with just one procedure.

Depending on the area being treated, two or more sessions may be necessary. After the first transfer, a portion of the fat does not survive and is reabsorbed by the body. This volume is typically restored during a second (or sometimes third) procedure. The fat that successfully takes hold becomes part of the body’s own tissue and does not get reabsorbed.

However, the transferred fat can change with weight loss or the natural aging process. Since overall fat volume decreases with weight loss, it’s impossible to maintain only the transferred fat independently.

That said, if the fat graft has properly settled, it doesn’t simply disappear on its own, so there’s no need to worry about that.

How much can the nose be raised with rhinoplasty?

When patients come in for a rhinoplasty consultation, one of the most frequently asked questions is:
"Can I make my nose as high as I want?"

This is especially common among those who are concerned about having a low nasal bridge.
However, in reality height is not the most important factor in rhinoplasty.

The height of the nasal bridge and tip should be determined based on the overall facial balance and the individual shape of the nose.
If the nose is made too high without considering harmony, it can actually look unnatural or even odd.

For example, if you have large and defined eyes, like those of Western individuals, a high nose bridge can complement them well.
But if you have rounder, softer eyes, a moderately raised bridge tends to look more natural and attractive.
So it's important that the shape of the nose matches and balances with your facial features.

Typically in rhinoplasty: the bridge is shaped using a silicone implant, and the tip is formed using the patient’s own cartilage.

For the bridge, surgeons use FDA-approved, safe silicone implants.
To shape the tip, they use ear cartilage or nasal septum cartilage, depending on the case.

If you’re uncomfortable with the idea of a silicone implant, there are alternatives — such as fillers or fat grafting.
