Professor Lee Wan S*k, a specialist in gastroenterology, has been inaugurated as the 12th President of Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital, presenting a vision for the hospital’s next phase of growth.

👨🏻‍⚕️President Lee Wan S*k graduated from Chonnam National University Medical School in 1994 and earned his Ph.D. In Medicine from the same university in 2002. He has served as a professor of gastroenterology and is widely recognized as an authority in therapeutic endoscopy for gastrointestinal cancers.

👍 Researchers at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital have gained attention for presenting a novel imaging-based method that enables the characterization and prognostic assessment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) without the need for tissue biopsy. By jointly analyzing MRI and PET images, the researchers demonstrated that the metabolic characteristics of hepatocellular carcinoma can be differentiated using imaging data alone.

These findings demonstrate that MRI, traditionally regarded as an imaging modality focused on anatomical and structural assessment, can also reflect the metabolic characteristics of cancer cells. As a result, the study is viewed as significantly expanding the clinical utility of diagnostic imaging.

🦠Infections that occur after artificial joint surgery are regarded as one of the most difficult complications to treat in the field of orthopedic surgery. The primary reason these infections respond poorly to antibiotic therapy is the formation of. Biofilm by bacteria on the surface of the implanted prosthetics. This film-like structure protects bacteria from the external environment, making it difficult to eradicate once formed using medication alone.

👨🏻‍⚕️Amid these therapeutic limitations, the hop joint team consisting of Prof. Park Kyung-Soon and Lee Chan-Young of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital, along with researcher Wan Le, confirmed through experiments that bacterial biofilms formed on prosthetic joints can be more effectively removed by simply combining disinfectants already used at the hospital.

🎉Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) has begun the implementation of treatment with the nuclear medicine radioligand therapy Pluvicto (lutetium Lu-177 vipivotide tetraxetan), which is gaining attention as a new paradigm in prostate cancer treatment.

Recently, the hospital’s Department of Nuclear Medicine successfully administered Pluvicto therapy to patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) who did not respond to conventional hormone therapy or chemotherapy.

⚠️Pluvicto is a radioligand therapy that binds to PSMA (prostate-specific membrane antigen), which is overexpressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells. After binding, the emitted radiation from the radioisotope lutetium-177 (Lu-177) selectively targets and destroys cancer cells. The therapy is administered to patients whose PSMA expression is confirmed in advance through PSMA PET/CT imaging.

🏩 Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) officially launched the national research and development project’K-HOPE’ (Korea-Hwasun Oncology Precision biomedicine & Experimental trials) and declared its leap forward as an AI-Bio based Asian cancer hub.

The hospital held the ‘K-HOPE Symposium: AI-Bio Future Opened by Hwasun from Clinical Innovation to Innovation’ at the Mirae Hall of the Hospital’s Future Medical Innovation Center on December 5, and presented a blueprint for the era of a digital smart clinical trials platform specialized for Korean cancer with top experts in the bio fields from Korea and abroad.
