Can Stomach Reflux Cause Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a type of sleep disorder in which the patient has episodes of complete cessation of breathing for at least 10 times during sleep and repeated several times during the night.
This is a dangerous syndrome that can cause serious health problems such as:
❌ Reduces oxygen and increases CO2 in the blood, thereby affecting blood vessels in the heart, lungs, kidneys, pancreas, brain... leading to a variety of metabolic disorders, hypertension, angina pectoris, risk of coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, cerebral hemorrhage.
❌ For people with heart problems, sleep apnea can lead to congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, ischemic heart disease, and cerebrovascular diseases.

Currently, there have been many studies that have shown that this sleep apnea has a close relationship with gastroesophageal reflux disease, specifically:
➖ Acid reflux episodes affect the body's airway and ability to breathe normally. Causes apnea of more than 10 seconds, repeated several times during the night.
When sleep apnea occurs, pressure changes in the diaphragm and chest cavity. This makes it easier for acid reflux to happen more often.
