Causes of itchy dandruff:
Dandruff occurs due to two main causes: physiological causes and pathological causes.
1️⃣ Physiological causes:
Due to excessive peeling of the stratum corneum on the scalp. Usually caused by:
- Oily scalp: some people have oily skin, due to the large number of sebaceous glands and their large size, especially in the areas of the face and the front of the scalp. Excess sebum will clog the pores of the scalp in front, causing a white, thin scab, which is dandruff.
- Dirty scalp: there are many people for work or health reasons that cannot wash their hair regularly every 2-3 days, causing dead skin cells on the scalp to accumulate, causing clogged pores, causing dandruff.
- Wearing a dirty helmet: helmets are a place that contains a lot of dirt and bacteria, but many of us often do not pay attention to cleaning and cleaning this hat. Dirt and sweat in helmets is a major cause of dandruff.
- Letting wet hair go to sleep: many people wash their hair in the evening, then go to bed without drying their hair, the wet condition of the scalp will be a condition for bacteria and fungi to multiply and grow. dandruff.
- Because shampooing is not reasonable: many people often think that washing their hair every day is clean and will reduce dandruff, but this is one of the causes of dandruff by washing their hair daily with shampoos with high quality ingredients. Strong detergents will strip away the protective layer of Ceramide on the scalp, creating conditions for bacteria and parasitic fungi on the scalp to grow and become the cause of dandruff.
- Using chemicals: beautifying the hair with chemicals such as curling, dyeing, pressing, is also a cause of dandruff because the damaged scalp will become weak before the attack of bacteria.
2️⃣ Pathological causes:
- Contact dermatitis: many people are allergic to a certain ingredient when using shampoos, glues, hair styling gels or chemicals that press, curl, dye their hair and have contact dermatitis. Mild, the scalp is scaly, itchy, if severe, there may be fluid, blisters, pustules on the scalp.
- Seborrheic Dermatitis: The disease occurs when the scalp has too much oil to clog the hair follicles, usually in oily areas like the front of the scalp. When scalp disease appears white or yellowish scales, if not cleaned, these patches will thicken, causing uncomfortable itching and a condition for scalp fungus to grow.
- Fungi: Scalp fungus, when conditions are favorable, will proliferate very quickly, they cause peeling of the scalp to form white patches, red scalp, papules around the lesion, limited to the middle of the skin. lesions and healthy skin are very obvious, symptoms may be accompanied by hair loss and breakage.
- Psoriasis: Many people have basal psoriasis that begins with flaking of the skin on the head. There appear white flakes, the underlying skin may be red or lumpy, itchy. Patients can have a lot of lesions on other areas of the body, inflammation of the nails, feet, and joint pain.
