That’s according to leaked documents published by NGO Monitor, which found that “Hamas ministry documents, dated February and March 2020, detail Hamas’ strategy of embedding its military infrastructure, fighters, and leadership within hospitals and medical facilities in Gaza.”
Some of the report’s key findings, which are taken from documents belonging to the Hamas Ministry of Interior and National Security (MoINS) are:
- One MoINS document stated that Gazan “health facilities are a place of gathering for the wounded during times of escalation, and these wounded cases (i.e. people) hold sensitive positions in the resistance. Furthermore, these health facilities are a place of gathering for numerous leaders of the [Hamas] movement and the government during times of escalation.”
- The MoINS also noted that “the [International Committee of the] Red Cross chose a wing in Al-Shifa medical complex that is adjacent to the [Hamas] movement offices.”
- The same document also said: “Doctors Without Borders (MSF) France chose the only room in Abu Yousef El-Najar Hospital that has a (safe) communication landline that belongs to the positive’s activity, in order for Doctors Without Borders to work in it separately.” The positive? As NGO Monitor noted, that is “a known term for Hamas’ Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.”
But that’s not all. NGO Monitor also found Hamas documents discussing the restriction of movement of medical delegations to the strip. Amongst other internal instructions for the medical teams, Hamas wrote:
- “When a location is allocated for these associations, it shall be outside the main building of the clinic or hospital, and far away from [Hamas] movement locations, and [only] following security authorization.”
- “Medical [Hamas] members from the Gaza Strip must join incoming delegations, whether the delegations work in hospitals or their own locations.”
There’s a lot that could be said about these findings, but I’ll leave you with one thought. While Hamas is no doubt guilty of exploiting Gaza’s medical facilities for its own terror purposes, legacy media and so-called human rights groups are perhaps no less guilty of ignoring what can no longer be denied. They may not care now, but one day, history will judge them.
