๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅToday is the last day to prepare for Hurricane Milton on the West Coast of Florida. Here are some important tips to stay safe during the storm:๐ง๏ธ๐ง๏ธ๐ง๏ธ
1. Obey evacuation orders: If an evacuation order is issued, leave the danger zone. If you can't, seek shelter in the nearest sturdy shelter, such as a neighbor's house.
2. Reach out: Designate a distant relative or friend to be your point of contact. Give that phone number to your family so they can easily reach you if needed.
3. Prepare for a power outage: Stock up on food, water, and charge all essential appliances. Keep your refrigerator at the lowest temperature possible to preserve food longer.
4. Protect important documents: Place valuable documents and items in a waterproof bag and store them in a safe place, such as in the dishwasher or washing machine.
5. Stock up on water: Fill your bathtub with water and store water in cans or bottles for use in case of water shortages.
6. Park your car in a safe place: Park your car away from trees that could fall and where flooding cannot submerge your car.
7. Charge your battery: Make sure your lights, phone, and power bank are fully charged.
8. Book a hotel: If you need to evacuate, book a hotel directly to avoid the risk of cancellation by a third party.
9. Stock up on gas, cash, and medications: Fill your gas tank, withdraw cash, and prepare basic medications such as fever reducers and diarrhea medicine.
10. Prepare for pets: Find a shelter that can take pets if needed.
11. Stay with others if you do not evacuate: If you stay, stay with at least 1-2 people to support each other. Save phone battery and energy.
12. Find a solid shelter: If you stay in a dangerous area, make sure to take shelter in a concrete building that is 2-3 stories or higher and has a concrete roof.
13. Prepare candles and a mini gas stove: Use them for cooking and lighting when necessary.
These tips can be useful in hurricane situations in many places, not just Florida. Please share so everyone can be better prepared.
