A research team led by Professor Mi-Na Kweon from the Department of Convergence Medicine at the University of Ulsan College of Medicine and AMC reported that Bifidobacterium adolescentis significantly reduced intestinal inflammation in mice with acute colitis. Treated mice showed less weight loss, preserved colon length, and lower inflammatory scores compared with controls. 🦠🧫🧬
The study found that peptidoglycan, a bacterial cell wall component, activates regulatory B cells and increases interleukin 10 production via Toll like receptor 2 signaling. Published in ‘Gut Microbes’, the findings provide new mechanistic insight into how probiotic derived components regulate intestinal immune homeostasis. 🩺🧪🛡️
