was celebrated in April 2023 from the 11th to the 17th.

Our article, with comments from our Registered Midwife Allie Campbell, offers some insight into the shocking and eye-opening statistics on Black maternal health, raising awareness of the issues Black women still face in the maternity system. We also share some resources for Black women from organisations such as Five X More who offer the 'six steps' guide, including steps they can take to help improve their care.

We join in supporting and increasing education around Black maternal health. As healthcare professionals, we can and should work towards changing these statistics and challenging institutional racism to create a better maternity system for all, regardless of race.

An interesting read summarising a University of Tokyo research study on the movements of babies in the womb. Researchers propose that these random kicks and movement can increase a baby’s sensorimotor movement (e.g. crawling, coordination, balance etc.) helping with their development after birth.

The random movements that babies make while in the womb help boost their sensorimotor movement that will aid them after birth.
