Research shows that when young people feel connected in safe and supportive environments, such as those provided by school belonging and supportive relationships; they experience lower levels of depression, reduced stress, and are significantly less likely to engage in risk-taking behaviours.

One of the goals of the Summer Cs campaign is to promote resources and services to help young people find the connections they need to express themselves freely and safely.

Check out the list of services and resources available that connect children, youth, parents and guardians to mental health services and resources available in the Cayman Islands.

As the season comes to a close, we bid a fond farewell to our 2025 summer interns and extend our deepest thanks on behalf of the Department of Counselling Services.

This year, we had the privilege of working alongside seven outstanding young women:
• Jade D. Barnard – University of Glasgow, Neuroscience
• Jhanessa Powery – University of Cincinnati, Psychology
• Tamia McLean – University of British Columbia, Psychology
• Diaviaun Thompson – University College of the Cayman Islands, Nursing
• Chauntae Martinez – University College of the Cayman Islands, Social Work
• Stephanie Karmitz – University of Western Ontario, Psychology
• Azzaria Chisholm – University College of the Cayman Islands, Social Work

From day one, they brought unwavering positivity, a strong work ethic, and a refreshing can-do spirit that energized our team. Their contributions not only supported our goals but also enriched our workplace with professionalism, compassion, and collaboration.

Each of these bright young women has demonstrated remarkable promise in the fields of human and social services. It has been a pleasure to witness their creativity, empathy, and dedication in action.

We are truly grateful for the lightness, insight, and fresh perspectives they brought to our daily work. On behalf of the Department of Counselling Services, we look forward to all they will accomplish in the years ahead—knowing they will make a meaningful impact wherever they go.

⭐️May is Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month (TPP). This years theme SAFE START, is aimed at providing education across various platforms to empower parents and teenagers with expert advice and knowledge on Puberty, Healthy Relationships and S*x- related topics.

⭐️Age-appropriate, evidence based, comprehensive s*x and s*xual education is an essential component not only in teen pregnancy prevention, but also in delaying the age of s*xual initiation and empowering youth to act more responsibly.
