Dr. Lesley Garcia is an occupational therapist with 20 years of experience working primarily with community-dwelling older adults in an underserved population in Trinidad and Tobago. Her current research applies a critical occupational lens combined with a human rights perspective to develop a sustainable telehealth intervention for people with dementia. She is currently a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Early Stage Researcher based at the University of Nottingham, UK.

As a researcher in the DISTINCT (Dementia: Intersectorial Strategy for Training and Innovation Network for Current Technology) programme, Lesley is working on developing a digital self-management tool for use by people with dementia and their caregivers. Lesley earned a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Loma Linda University in California, USA. She was the founding director of the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy programme at the University of the Southern Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago.

In her session, Dr Garcia discusses the development of ROAD MAP (Recovery-oriented Approach to Dementia through Meaningful Activity Participation), and evaluates whether it is an acceptable and
useable digital technology that enables and enhances connectedness, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment in the lives of people with dementia in the United Kingdom.

Cristina Perdomo Delgado is a Spanish Occupational Therapist. She is currently a PhD student in Design (Assistive Technology) and creator of the MeCuido (remote care) application, funded by the Ibero-American Postgraduate University Association.
Her research areas are in Assistive Technologies, Tele-rehabilitation, Telecare, Accessibility, the elderly, independence.

Dr. Bill Wong is an occupational therapist licensed in California since 2012. He currently practices full time in skilled nursing facility setting and teaches as an adjunct instructor at Stanbridge University. Bill was diagnosed as an autistic individual in 2010. Bill is a current member of AOTA’s Volunteer Leader Development Committee.
Bill is also a 2 time TEDx speaker and a 3 time TEDx event organizer.
We are excited to hear his insights as an autistic individual and as a champion of the occupational therapy profession.

Megan Lee Brink is an Occupational Therapist currently residing and working in the field of paediatrics in the Cayman Islands. She has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. Before her relocation to the Cayman Islands, Ms. Brink ran her own private practice in Johannesburg focusing on paediatrics, in both the government and private sectors. She has a great passion for working with youth and her research focuses on vulnerable youth in under-resourced communities.

She co-authored a paper entitled “We are the Peace Team”: Exploring transformation among previously gang-involved young men in Cape Town.” Ms. Brink plans to further her Occupational Therapy knowledge by pursuing her doctorate degree in 2022, with emphasis on in the area of vulnerable youth.

Sue Mesa works as a Senior Lecturer in Occupational Therapy at York St John University in the United Kingdom. Sue has been conducting research with Dr Lorna Hamilton who is the Associate Head for Psychology, both based at York St John University in the UK. Her presentation is based on an academic paper recently published examining how autistic young people understand their diagnosis and the develop their individual identity in the context of mainstream schooling.

She has co-authored a number of publications and has presented at several conferences in Denmark and London.

We are looking forward to hearing her presentation on this most current research.

The Association of Caribbean Occupational Therapists (ACOT) conference themed “Opening Doors to Inclusion Across the Lifespan” is a one day virtual conference held on Saturday 30th October, 2021. This year's conference is proudly hosted by the Cayman Islands Occupational Therapy Association (C***A). Occupational Therapists work with individuals with physical, cognitive and sensory processing difficulties to help them to engage in activities of daily life that they need, want, or are expected to do.

Dr. Patty Coker-Bolt is a Professor in the Division of Occupational Therapy where she teaches pediatric coursework and engages students in community-based learning experiences. She received an undergraduate degree in special education in 1989 from the Pennsylvania State University and her occupational therapy degree from MUSC in 1998. She has over 23 years of OT experience, specializing in the treatment of high-risk infants and children with neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral palsy (CP). Her research has focused on the study of interventions for children with CP and includes a pediatric handbook on constraint-induced movement therapy and also research on early detection for infants at-risk for CP. Dr. Coker-Bolt has been involved in several global initiatives and has mentored students on inter-professional medical trips to South Africa, Romania, Uganda, and Nicaragua. She completed grant funded projects to train therapists in Ethiopia and recently completed a project with Handicap International to update inter-professional guidelines for the rehabilitation of children with CP in Vietnam. She was selected as a Fulbright Specialist in 2016 to work with the Episcopal University of Haiti and provided expertise for the first occupational and physical therapy educational program in Haiti. She recently received a second Fulbright Specialist award in 2019 to work with faculty in the Volga Region University in Kazan, Russia to develop inclusive community and sport opportunities for children with disabilities. She will be completing a U.S. Fulbright Scholar Award to teach in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at the University of the Southern Caribbean starting in April of 2022.

With this wealth of knowledge, and her clinical and academic experience, we are greatly anticipating her presentations and are grateful that she has chosen to present at .
