Dr Sara Watkin

Dr Sara Watkin Dr Watkin is a highly experienced, tertiary specialist paediatrician & neonatologist in Grand Cayman

Specialist Paediatrician & Neonatologist
Paediatrics & Newborn Care at Grand Pavilion on West Bay Road

First and foremost I am a baby doctor, having spent many years as Chief of Service of one of the UK's foremost tertiary NICUs in University College London Hospitals. Obviously that has given me an exceptional level of experience in delivery room, immediate care (including emergency care and resu

scitation) of newborns, both as preterms from 23+ weeks and in term babies with complications (around 10% of births have complications). I am also a very busy general paediatrician and have a practice that stretches from 0 to 18 years, covering both routine and more complex paediatrics.

⚠️ Meningitis B Outbreak in Kent, England: What Parents & Families in Cayman Need to Know Before Travelling

Kent, England is currently experiencing a meningitis B outbreak, with 29 confirmed cases and sadly 2 deaths as of 19 March 2026 (Source: UK Health Security Agency). The outbreak is centred around Canterbury and has primarily affected university and sixth-form students.

If your children are travelling to Kent, studying elsewhere in the UK, or you have upcoming trips planned - which we know many families are doing with the Easter holidays approaching, this information is especially important.

I understand how worrying this can feel, and my goal is to provide clear, practical guidance to help keep your family safe and supported.

England reported nearly 3,000 measles cases in 2024 - mostly in unvaccinated children. Cayman’s travel links make imported measles a real risk.

💬 "I have seen what measles and other vaccine-preventable diseases can do. I have also seen how dramatically that burden lifts when vaccines are widely used. Those memories stay with me, the sick children, the frightened faces, the grieving families. And I have seen the alternative, where hospital beds remain empty of these cases because children are protected." – Dr Sara Watkin

Vaccines save countless children in the UK, Cayman, and worldwide from preventable suffering. We must protect that achievement and hold all influential voices - not just clinicians, to rigorous standards.
