Cayman Islands Veterinary Medical Association The Association is committed to promoting the veterinary medical profession within the Cayman Island

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
• To promote the veterinary profession and educate the public in matters of animal welfare, husbandry, safety, health and the human-animal bond.
• To promote cohesiveness and unite the veterinary professionals of the Cayman Islands as we work together to achieve our common goals.
• To represent the veterinary community of the Cayman Islands on a national and international level.
• To support veterinarians through all phases of the profession.
• To promote high standards of veterinary care in the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean.
• Increased public awareness of the value of veterinary care through public relations campaigns.
• Provide locally available continuing education lectures and wet labs with visiting boarded specialists in a variety of veterinary fields.

Happy World Veterinary Day!

This year's theme focuses on the Veterinarian's role in sustainable development to improve livelihoods, food security, and food safety. Vets have such a diverse job description and can have a huge impact on the safety of society. Here are some tips surrounding safe drug use in animals:

- Ensure that drug withholding times for animal products are adhered to before slaughter, egg consumption, or before animals return to the milking herd
- Ensure that all pet and livestock medications have a valid prescription and are purchased and used under the guidance or supervision of a qualified Veterinarian
- Never use, sell, or loan an unlabelled medication
- Know the basic signs of drug reactions for your pets and livestock animals and notify your Veterinarian as soon as any abnormal signs are observed after administering a medication
- Purchase animal products from low-intensity farms or companies, where drug use is minimal and warranted

Let's all join hands to make our food safer, our pets healthier, and our world better!
