Sayuri Fonseka and Joel Ganeshan’s journey is one of love, courage and selflessness in the face of unimaginable loss. After years of fertility challenges, they joyfully welcomed their son, Caleb, following a difficult pregnancy that required Sari to spend months on bedrest in Miami. Caleb was born at 39 weeks and three days, but soon faced serious health complications. Initially diagnosed with low platelets and suspected autoimmune issues, he was later found to have a rare genetic condition called Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, which included a novel mutation. As Caleb’s condition worsened, doctors prepared for a bone marrow transplant, but his platelet levels remained too low. When he suffered an intracranial brain bleed, Sari and Joel made the profoundly generous decision to make their son an organ donor. Caleb’s heart went on to save the life of a one-month-old baby with a congenital heart condition—an extraordinary gift that continues his legacy of hope. Though their loss is immeasurable, Sari and Joel’s strength and compassion shine through. They have since welcomed another son, Kyle, who has brought healing and joy to their family. Their story embodies the truest spirit of a Heart Hero—love that endures and gives life to others.

Chase Webb entered the world on 20 June 2016 with an AV canal defect and Down syndrome (Trisomy 21). Doctors warned he might live only days or weeks—but his family, especially his grandmother Audrey Meghie, refused to give up hope. From the very beginning, Audrey opened her heart and her life to him, standing as his protector, his voice and his constant source of strength.Nine years later, Chase continues to defy every expectation. His smile lights entire rooms, his laughter softens even the hardest days and his spirit radiates a determination far bigger than his small frame. Though he cannot yet walk or speak much, he communicates with a powerful presence—through signs, joy and a connection that touches everyone around him.His journey has been filled with challenges—hospital stays, therapy sessions and moments of uncertainty—but Chase meets each one with courage and grace. His mother calls him their greatest teacher, reminding them that real strength is found not in milestones but in resilience, patience and love. And at the center of that love is Audrey. She retired to care for Chase full time, becoming his teacher, his comfort and his best friend. Every day, she pours her heart into his care and celebrates each victory, no matter how small. Their bond is extraordinary—two souls who understand one another even without words.Chase is a true Heart Disease Survivor. Audrey is his Heart Hero. Together, they show that love can move mountains, hope can outshine hardship and miracles happen every single day.

Dora Samantha Dixon’s journey is a powerful story of faith, resilience and survival. In November 2022, what began as a normal morning at home in West Bay turned into a life-threatening medical crisis. After experiencing sudden confusion and disorientation, Dora suffered a stroke and brain bleed, followed by severe sepsis that spread rapidly through her body. Her family was told to prepare for the worst as she battled for her life across three hospitals and two countries over the next five months.Dora underwent two open-heart surgeries—first at Health City Cayman Islands in December 2022, and then at Baptist Hospital in Miami in February 2023—after developing infective endocarditis that damaged her heart valves. Despite the immense challenges, including the loss of one toe due to a peripheral embolism caused by endocarditis, she defied the odds and made a remarkable recovery.Today, Dora lives each day with gratitude, faith and a renewed appreciation for life. She cherishes time with her family and grandchildren and credits her survival to God and the unwavering support of her loved ones who stood by her side throughout her recovery. Her courage and perseverance in the face of overwhelming adversity make her a true Heart Disease Survivor and an inspiration to all who hear her story.

After years of battling rheumatic heart disease, Glenton Morgan’s journey is one of remarkable endurance and renewal. Having undergone mitral and aortic valve replacements in 2007, his condition gradually worsened over time, leading to repeated hospitalisations for heart failure. When it became clear that a transplant was his only option, he was referred to the Cleveland Clinic in Florida—where, on 3 March 2024, he received the life-saving gift of a new heart. Following seven months of recovery overseas, Mr Morgan returned home to the Cayman Islands in October 2024 in good health and high spirits. He has since resumed his full duties and continues to thrive. His story of perseverance, faith and recovery is a powerful reminder of hope and the life-changing impact of organ donation—making him a true Heart Disease Survivor.

Born with pulmonary atresia—a rare congenital heart defect that left her without a left pulmonary artery—Karol McField has faced incredible challenges with unwavering courage and grace. She has undergone 12 surgeries, including three open-heart procedures and multiple stent placements. Her most recent surgery in 2024 was followed by two additional procedures on her vocal cords, yet she recovered with extraordinary strength, walking just 10 days after open-heart surgery. Through it all, Karol’s positive outlook shines. She approaches each hospital visit as an adventure shared with her devoted mother and remains deeply grateful for the doctors and advanced medicine that have given her a second chance at life. While she must be mindful of her condition and pacemaker, she continues to embrace life with optimism and purpose. Karol plans to pursue an associate’s degree in dental hygiene in Florida and return home to Cayman to live life to the fullest. Her perseverance, faith, and radiant spirit make her a true Heart Disease Survivor and an inspiration to all.
