ໃນກາງເດືອນ ກໍລະກົດ ທີ່ຜ່ານມາ ໂຄງການພວກເຮົາໄດ້ດຳເນີນການຜ່າຕັດໃຫ້ກັບຄົນເຈັບຢູ່ທີ່ໂຮງໝໍເດັກ.

We carried out surgery at our partner Children's Hospital in July.

It was the first surgery activity in our Pediatric Cancer Project, but with the cooperation of the children's hospital staff, we were able to complete it successfully.

It's been a year since I came to Laos. The staff at the children's hospital have always treated me kindly. I'm truly grateful.

I hope to continue working with the staff at the children's hospital in the future.

I hope that we can save as many children with cancer as possible.

Report from the Pediatric Solid Tumor Perioperative Technology Transfer Project

From July 15th to 20th, we carried out a surgical program at the National Children’s Hospital as part of the “Pediatric Solid Tumor Perioperative Technology Transfer Project” (hereafter referred to as the “Pediatric Cancer Project”). We were honored to welcome two doctors from Kyushu University Hospital: Professor Emeritus Dr. Taguchi and Dr. Kawakubo, the head of the Pediatric Surgery Department.

For the first time in Laos under this project, we successfully performed four surgical procedures, including needle biopsies.

While there were many challenges in preparing for and conducting this surgical program, it was made possible thanks to the support and cooperation of many people.

In particular, Mr. Owen, our Lao staff member and project leader, played an indispensable role. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this surgical activity could not have been realized without his leadership and dedication.

We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the Japan Heart administrative team, the Laos office staff, the Cambodia team, the staff at the National Children’s Hospital, and of course, the patients and their families.

We hope to continue working closely with the hospital staff in Laos as we move this project forward.

Dr. Tomoda, who participated in the surgical mission at Oudomxay Provincial Hospital from Japan, wrote about her experiences and the local medical staff in the latest issue of Voice No. 90, the public relations magazine of Ito Hospital. Here is an excerpt from it.

This was my second time joining our support activities, and compared to my previous visit, I was deeply impressed by how much the Lao surgeons and nurses had deepened their knowledge of thyroid surgery and how proactively they acted. I was especially surprised by the wide scope and flexibility of the nurses' duties. In Laos, many of the inpatient care procedures that are typically handled by physicians in Japan are instead carried out independently by nurses.

One memorable moment was when a nurse showed her handwritten notebook filled with detailed terms in both Lao and English, which she uses for nursing work and medical records, proudly saying, "I’m also studying English." Her smile and her words, “I want to learn more,” left a strong impression, reflecting a deep passion and desire for self-improvement.
